Sheas Performing Arts Center or Shea"s Buffalo is located in Buffalo, New York and is one of the prime venues for hosting Broadway Musicals and several other special events of different sorts.

It is one of the oldest Performing Arts Center and was also listed on National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The Shea"s Buffalo was opened in 1926 with the capacity of upholding 4,000 people, with an objective of showing silent movies.

The building of the Arts Center was designed while keeping in mind the designs of the opera houses and palaces during 16th and 17th century Europe, and the style was a fine blend of the French, Spanish and Rocco styles.

The Shea"s Buffalo was designed by one the most renowned firm based in Chicago, Rapp and Rapp. Although initially the seat count with the opera house was 4,000, but later on, in order to make opera house more comfortable, several seats were removed from the arts center.

One of the most noticeable things in the interior of the Sheas Art Center is the chandeliers that are comprised of Czechoslovakian crystals. The interior of the Arts Center was designed by yet another famous designer of that era, Louis Comfort Tiffany. The seating area of the performing arts center stretches across 1 acres of space.

After incurring the construction cost of about $ 1.9 Million, the Sheas Performing Arts Center opened on January 16, 1926 as it showed the film King of the Main Street.

After its opening, the Arts Center was presided over by Michael Shea, however later in 1930; Mr. Shea retired from this post and was replaced by V. R. McFaul. McFaul remained in charge of not only the Sheas Performing Arts Center but also of all the Shea theatre located with in the vicinity of Metro Buffalo.

2006 marked the 80th anniversary of the theatre and it was celebrated with Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra performing under the supervision of JoAnn Falletta. Performed also at that night were Symphonies from the musicals such as Carillon de Westminister, The Phantom of the Opera and Bach"s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.

Over the year"s, Sheas Performing Arts Center has hosted a number of famous musicals and other theatre performances. Upcoming Events at Sheas in the month of May include, performances of the musical "A Chorus Line" starting from May 05 till May 10 and Buffalo Fan Awards on May 21, a Show by Rodney Carrington on May 27 and Eclectic Improv Company: Eclectic Boogalo on May 30th.

Apart from providing quality entertainment to theatre goers, Sheas Arts Center also encourages local high school youth to excel in the field of performing arts by working hands in hands with the Lipke Foundation to present the Kenny Awards.

This year, the Kenny Awards would be hosted at the center on May 16. Shea Arts Center also organized On School Time Series; shows that are targeted particularly towards school groups, apart from organizing an outreach program.
