The major state get-together, Minnesota State Fair hosts almost 1.7 million visitors annually from around the Midwest. Its history dates back to 1859, when the first Minnesota State Fair was held near what became downtown Minneapolis.
During the fairs early years, the site of the exposition changed annually, but in the 1870s and early 1880s, some civic groups worked relentlessly to provide a permanent home for the fair.
The Minnesota State Fair finally found a permanent home at its present location when the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners donated 210-acres to the governing body of the State Fair.

Today, the Fair also hosts large-scale entertainment acts, technological and industrial exhibits and scores of education and government institutions.
