In 2007, UT began a three phase renovation of the center which finished in 2003. Life safety upgrades were made along with new concession stands and restrooms.

There was also an addition of 28 suites, new scoreboard and indoor electronic video signs, and an addition of outdoor electronic video sign, Lone Star Room (reception hall) renovations. The new construction and renovation cost was $55 million and the architect this time was Heery International.

The first event at the Erwin Center was UT Men"s Basketball vs. The University of Oklahoma in November 29, 1977 and the first concert, to which it played host to, was of Lawrence Welk on March, 1978.
