Charlie Daniels Band
Charles Edward Charlie Daniels- born on October 28, 1936 in Wilmington, North Carolina, is a famous Country, Southern Rock, and Jazz musician. Daniels, a talented singer, guitarist, and violinist, began writing and performing in the 1950s.
In 1964, Daniels wrote It Hurts Me, which was sung Elvis Presley. He worked as a Nashville session musician, often for producer Bob Johnston, including playing on three Bob Dylan albums during 1969 and 1970, and recordings by Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen. Daniels recorded his first solo album, Charlie Daniels, in 1971 (see 1971 in country music). His first hit the? Uneasy Rider, was from his 1972 second album, Honey in the Rock, and reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 1974, Daniels organized the first Volunteer Jam concerts series based in or around Nashville, Tennessee and these jams have continued ever since.
He earned great success with the Southern Rock self-identification anthem The South's Gonna Do It Again.
Daniels also won the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance in 1979 for The Devil Went Down to Georgia, which reached #3 on the charts. His pop hits included In America, The Legend of Wooley Swamp, and Still in Saigon.
In the late 80s and 90s, Daniels' albums and singles ruled over Country charts. Apart from that he also launched various gospel and Christian records. The South's Gonna Do It had a mild message of Southern cultural uniqueness within the Southern rock movement. He was also a supporter of Jimmy Carter's presidential proposal and performed at his January 1977 inauguration. ?In America was a retort to the 1979-1981 Iran Hostage Crises; it described a patriotic while Still in Saigon depicted the Vietnam War crises.
In 1990, Daniels' country hit Simple Man apparently supported a pseudo-Biblical form of vigilantism and got Daniels considerable media attention and talk show visits. Daniels sent an Open Letter to the Hollywood Bunch in defense of President George W. Bush's Iraq policy in 2003. His 2003 book ?Ain't No Rag: Freedom, Family, and the Flag?contains this letter as well as many other personal statements.
Daniels is presently living in Mount Juliet, TN and even has a park named after him. In 2005, he has played a cameo role along with Larry the Cable Guy, Kid Rock, and Hank Williams, Jr. in Gretchen Wilson's music video for the song All Jacked Up.
