With Nemo, the two brothers released three albums and soon after introduced a more acoustic sound, forming Nemo Downstairs together with guitarist John Twomey.
This later turned into The Avett Brothers, with bassist John Crawford. In 2002, their first album was released, followed by a tour to promote the album. The band’s next album was a live album, of their tour, after which they met in studio to start work on their next album.
