Billy Elliot East Lansing Mi Tickets
Billy Elliot East Lansing MI show is a musical parallel to the 2000 film by the same name, Billy Elliot. Its music is composed by the legendary, award winning English composer Elton John, and its lyrics and book have been written by English screenwriter and playwright Lee Hall. The show’s plot centers on the motherless protagonist Billy, who is seen exchanging a pair of boxing gloves for simple ballet shoes. The struggles and issues he is confronted with in order to attain his dreams, are contrasted against the opposite story of a community and family conflict resulting from the strike by UK miners in Count Durham, set in the eighties. Hall’s script takes its inspiration partly from A.J. Cronin’s The Stars Look Down, which is what the musical’s very first track pays homage to.
Billy Elliot premiered in 2005 in the West End, from where it received nine Laurence Olivier Award nominations from which it won four the categories of Best New Musical, Best Theatre Choreographer, Best Sound Design and Best Actor in Musical. The musical’s original Broadway production of 2008 won ten Tony Awards including the categories of Best Orchestration, Best Choreography, Best Direction in a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Musical and Best Book. The same production was also nominated for ten Drama Desk Awards, and quite incredibly, won them all, including the categories of Outstanding Music, Outstanding Choreography, and Outstanding Musical, among others.
