Featured in various venues around the world 'Cirque du Soleil' is a modern version of a circus that includes amazing feats of dance, acrobatics, music, and other dazzling activities. It celebrates the raw human power and beauty. Watching this performance amongst the elements like water, fire, and dizzying heights, just absolutely thrills your senses.

It all began in the early 1980s in Quebec, Canada when a group of performers (mostly stilt-walkers) became popular as 'The High Heels Club'. Over time the club started introducing other acts like jugglers and fire-blowers. They and many other such acts used to gather at festivals to entertain the visitors. In 1984 all these groups came together under one big tent to perform and Cirque du Soleil was born. It was mostly the creation of Guy Lalibert and Daniel Gauthier; two entertainer and entrepreneurs in their twenties who despite rejection from banks didn't flinch in their endeavor to perform amazing circus feats.

Even at that time it was a new concept. Featuring outrageous set of clothes, it was a dramatic mix of street entertainment and circus arts presented under magical lighting and aided by original music. Another thing that made it (and still does) different was the lack of any animal in the ring. At first when this circus started touring it was only limited to Canada then in 1987 it crossed over to perform in California. That was an instant hit and after that there was no looking back for the Cirque. With the start of the 90s, Cirque De Soleil was known internationally touring other continents as well.

Today, it is more than a big top event! Cirque du Soleil is one of the most accomplished and the biggest brands in international entertainment. Now there are a number of different Cirque shows charming millions with the spectacular fantasy world and captivating hearts and minds of both young and old.

There are Cirque touring shows, resident shows arena shows and special performances. However, not all these shows are appropriate for children. For that Cirque has special family shows. The touring shows are the conventional Circus style performances within a big tent popularly called the Big Top. It visits many cities around the world throughout the year. Currently these include Saltimbanco, Quidam, Alegrìa, Dralion, Corteo and Varekai. The resident shows are specially designed permanent theater shows. At present there are six of these at different locations. Out of these six productions, five are held in hotels in Las Vegas USA, namely Treasure Island Casino Hotel, Bellagio casino hotel, the New York-New York Hotel Casino, MGM Grand Hotel and Mirage casino hotel. La Nouba is a Cirque show which is held at a theater at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Cirque arena shows are specifically designed for and presented in stadiums or arenas like that. These are also a sort of touring shows as they spend a couple of days in a number of locations/cities. BRAVO in the USA and CTV in Canada are official television networks which show Cirque Du Soleil shows on and off.

On June 16, 2009, Cirque Du Soleil celebrated its 25th anniversary. In Las Vegas that day was officially named Cirque du Soleil Day. Additionally, The Strip in Las Vegas was also renamed Cirque du Soleil Boulevard for that day. It has also been reported that the founder of Cirque du Soleil - Guy Laliberte - will receive his very own star on California's Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010.
