The musical is set in the year 1906 in Oklahoma Territory. The plot of the play revolves around farm girl Laurey Williams and his romance with cowboy Curly McLain. Some of the other characters in the play include Ado Annie and Will Parker. In the year 1944, the musical received a Pulitzer Prize for Special Awards and Citations ? Letters.
