Les Miserables written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, has toured the world and won numerous major award including eight Tony awards, Best Musical. This musical Les Miserables has moved the hearts of its audiences worldwide as very few shows in history have ever done.The supremacy of the show lies in the strength of theatrical adaptation that is produced by Cameron Mackintosh and directed by Trevor Nunn and John Caird. And of course we cannot overlook the timeless beautiful novel on which the musical is based by Victor Hugo's classic, Les Miserables.It's been more than 130 years but Hugo's words still echo the endless message of his novel with same influence.

It's introspection for an individual's emotions and life is the focal point of novelist. The novel narrates that doesn't matter how many differences we have on apparent level. The want of every individual for his freedom and serenity is the same. The story of the show has moved the performer as well as the audiences through out the ages. The fact that there has been new cast and new spectators over the years haven't changed the charm and impact of the show actually the magic has spurred and is ever-growing.The musical is a complete treat to read, listen and see. I would say seeing is the best part. I enjoyed seeing the actors dying in slow motion on stage in front of my eyes.

The most fascinating portion for me was the change of sets with so much continuity with the pervious without having a halt and all is being done in front of the viewers. The magic remains the same doesn't matter you are watching it for the first time or 4th or 5th time. Les Miserables is whispered to be the most admired musical over the globe. It has been viewed probably by 50 million people around the world! The show was first opened in 1985 and proved to be a big success then it continued its culture of success till now. The musical depicts the struggles of Jean Valjean, (the hero or the main lead) who wishes to begin a decent life in anonymity after breaking his parole. Victor Hugo_ the writer of the novel-a French novelist means by les Miserables, the Wretched ones, the Poor ones, the Victims. Hugo was actually inspired by the real life criminal/policeman person. But he divided the personalities in to leading characters of the novel. Novel gives the effects of Valjean's deeds as social commentary.

The novel shows a nature of good and evil, and the law and through this explains history of France, architecture of Paris, politics, moral philosophy, law, justice, religion, and the types and nature of romantic and familial love.Les Miserables is recognized through its numerous stage and screen adaptations, out of which the most famous adaptation is the stage musical of the same name, widely known as Les Mis. Les Miserables includes loads of plots, but the single chord that ties them together is the character of the ex-convict Jean Valjean. Who emerges as a force of good in the world, but unfortunately could not flee from his past. Mainly there are five parts of the plot, every part consists on a book, and each book further divided into chapters. The chapter of the novel is quite short; generally no more than a few pages.But on the whole the book in full is very lengthy as compared to usual standards, more than twelve hundred pages in unabridged editions. Within the novel, novelist Hugo covers many pages with his thoughts on religion, politics, and society also putting his three lengthy digressions, one is a discussion on enclosed religious orders, other one is on argot, and the third and most famously, his epic narrating the Battle of Waterloo.The musical depicts the struggles of Jean Valjean, (the hero or the main lead) who wishes to begin a decent life in anonymity after breaking his parole. Jean Valjean was imprisoned for 19 years for stealing food for his family, he is released but with a yellow ticket which makes him a convict.

He is condemns by the society as no one wants to work with or hire a convict. He sleeps in the streets but then the benign bishop Myriel shelters him but at night he steals from him and runs away but police caught him. Though bishop says that the stole good Silverware was a gift but he asks Valjean to become an honest man.Time passed and Valjean became quite rich but unfortunately when an innocent was captured Valjean had to reveal his fake identity to save his life.

He in the meanwhile also met dying Fantine in whom he saw his own life miseries. She had a daughter and before her death Valjean promised her to take care of her. So now the center of attention of ValJean's life is Cosette, daughter of Fantine.He tries to keep her away from her lover thinking that he'll be alone but after knowing that Cosette's lover is in danger. He saves him and then eventually Marius (the lover) and Cosette gets married.

Now Valjean is broken as he feels that Cosette doesn't need him anymore. Marius also tries to keep her away from Valjean as he considers him a personality having poor character. But he finds about his good deed when Valjean is already on his death bed. Mainly the focus of the drama is on legalism. The show is on the whole is about the emotions and person growth of a personality. That touches the heart of spectators of all ages.
