Hamilton is a musical based on the story of a young immigrant named Alexander Hamilton who became one of the founding fathers of the United States of America. Hamilton is a brainchild of the team that staged the Tony Award winning play "In the Heights." The story of the founding fathers and Alexander Hamilton is presented to the audience in a contemporary hip-hop themed atmosphere.
The musical is being directed by Tony nominated director Thomas Kail. Lin Manual Miranda is the musical's playwright as well as the lead actor. He has previously won a Tony, Grammy and an Emmy award for his works. Three well-known producers are at the helm of this play; Jeffery Seller, Jill Furman and Sander Jacobs have contributed a lot in making this play a success. Hamilton is to be staged at the Public Theater from January 20th 2015 onwards.
The story of Alexander Hamilton shows many aspects of his life. Starting his life as an orphan, raised on the Caribbean island of Nevis, he reached New York to study in King's College. He became famous as a war hero for his role in the American Revolutionary War in 1775. He soon became George Washington's right hand man. He was a loving husband but unfortunately got caught in the first sex scandal in America. His ingenious thinking and political talent led him to become the Treasury Head of America which forced the entire untrusting world to put their faith in the American economy. His success made an everlasting mark on the new nation which was as ambitious and determined as he was.
Miranda got the inspiration of this play from a biography written by Ron Chernow. He was immediately taken by Alexander Hamilton's story and decided to portray Hamilton on stage himself. The play will also shed light on the friction between founding fathers George Washington, Eliza Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton's adversary and ally, Aaron Burr who gravely injured Hamilton by shooting him in a duel in 1804 in New Jersey.
This revolutionary story will be backed by songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. He won a Tony Award for his score for the musical "In the Heights" and should be another serious contender next year.
The cast of the play includes some very well-known actors. Phillipa Soo plays Eliza Hamilton, Anthony Ramos plays John Laurens and Phillip Hamilton, Renée Elise Goldsberry plays Angelica Schuyler, and Daveed Diggs plays Marquis De Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson. The choreography has been brilliantly done by Andy Blankenbuehler. Costumes are designed by Paul Tazewell. Alex Lacamoire is the man behind the music direction and orchestration of the entire score.
The earlier version of the musical was previewed in the Lincoln Center's American Songbook series in 2012 and was highly appreciated and critically acclaimed. The title of this version was "The Hamilton Mixtape". A part of this was also played by Lin Manuel Miranda White House Evening of Poetry, Music, and the Spoken Words in 2009 for President Obama and his wife. After the success of these previews, he announced in March 2014 that Hamilton is in fact coming to Broadway in 2015.
If you are a fan of the American history and if you want to experience this story live, then you do not want to miss this opportunity. Hamilton will hit The Public Theater on January 20th 2015 and will be staged for only five weeks. All you have to do now is to grab your Hamilton Tickets while they last, race to the theaters and avail this chance to witness the breath taking and revolutionary play, live.
