Baltimore Orioles is the name of a Major League Baseball team from Baltimore, Maryland. The team plays as a part of the American League in the Eastern Division. 'Attorney Peter Angelos' is the owner of the team. The team is also known by its nickname 'The O's' and 'The Birds'. The roots of the Orioles can be traced back in 1894, to the original Western League's Milwaukee Brewers. When the WL was renamed as the American League in 1900, the Brewers existed.

Soon after taking over, the new team was renamed as the Baltimore Orioles, by the Miles-Hofberger group. The name already existed, as it was being used by the baseball teams of Baltimore as well, during the nineteenth century.

At the end of nineteenth century, many prominent names (the future Hall of Famers), including Wilbert Robinson, "Wee" Willie Keeler, John McGraw and Hughie Jennings were included a powerful and innovative National League Orioles squad came into picture. They won pennants one after another and also took part in all the 'Temple Cup Championship Series', ultimately winning two of the four. Following that they became American Association's charter member. It took about them around six years to come to the level of the new AL Orioles.
