Tracy Lawrence
Tracy Lawrence is an American country singer-songwriter. Lawrence has charted more than thirty singles on the country music charts, including eight Number Ones and fourteen additional Top Ten hits.
To-date, he has released a total of ten studio albums and four compilations. Born in Atlanta, Texas and raised in Foreman, Arkansas, Tracy Lawrence played in his first band at the ripe age of sixteen.
He became a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity while attending Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. Hoping to find success as a recording artist, Lawrence left Arkansas for Nashville in 1991.
Tracy Lawrence worked as an ironworker and in phone sales while trying to break into the music business. Lawrence also began taking part in talent shows and earned enough money to live on. He turned on to Wanda Collier, a music publisher. Together they did some shows and co-wrote some songs, while learning his way around the music scene in Nashville.
During a gig at the Bluebird Cafe, Lawrence met Wayne Edwards who became his manager. With Edwards assistance, he signed with Atlantic Records who released his first album called Sticks and Stones. The album debuted on the country music charts that year and spawned a self-titled single Sticks and Stones.
Tracy Lawrences single Sticks and Stones reached the top of the Billboard country charts in early 1992. The record also reached at number One album on the Top Country Albums charts, and was certified platinum. Throughout the 1990s, Tracy Lawrence continued to chart several Top Ten hits from his subsequent albums. He appeared with Alibis in 1993 and Time Marches On in 1996.
Both albums earned Lawrence 2 x Multi-Platinum certification, while 1994's I See It Now was certified platinum. The singer also released a Live album in 1995 and another studio album entitled Time Marches On in 1996. The following year, he came up with The Coast Is Clear which he co-produced.
In the latter half of the 1990s, Tracy Lawrences success on charts declined though. But, he rebounded in 2000 with the Top 5 title track from his album Lessons Learned. He returned to the Top 5 with a number 3 hit Lessons Learned which also made the Top 40 on the pop charts. Its album also was successful, but his other singles from the album didnt get off to match the success of Lessons Learned.
After the closure of Atlantic Records country division, Tracy Lawrence moved among several labels. He released a self-titled album in 2001 on Warner Bros. Records, but he could not maintain chart success with the album with two songs becoming minor hits.
Tracy Lawrence released Strong for DreamWorks Nashville in 2003, and Then & Now: The Hits Collection for Mercury Nashville in 2005. Although all of these albums produced several chart hits for him, only 2004's Paint Me a Birmingham could manage to reach Top 10.
Strong became Tracys highest charting album ever going to number 2 on the country album charts. It went number 17 on the pop album charts and his single Paint Me a Birmingham reached at number 4 on the country charts. Around this time, Tracy remarried to his new wife Becca and started a family of his own. The two has two daughters.
Then & Now: The Hits Collection was Tracy Lawrence's second greatest-hits album, released under the Mercury Records label in 2005. The album featured re-recordings of many of Lawrence's Top 5 hits, as well as two new songs. These songs were Used to the Pain and If I Don't Make it Back, both of which couldnt get off to major success.
Lawrence featured new re-recordings of the older songs because he had switched record labels, and the label for whom he was recording did not hold the rights to the old recordings. In the last quarter of 2006, Tracy Lawrence finally founded his own label, Rocky Comfort Records.
A partnership with his manager and brother Laney Lawrence, Rocky Comfort Records operates as a joint venture with CO5 Nashville. The label issued Tracys first single Find Out Who Your Friends Are which reached the top of the country charts in 2007. It was also his first Number One hit single in eleven years. The label also released Tracy Lawrences For the Love in January 2007.
For the Love was Lawrence's first album of all-new material in almost three years. The album featured two versions of Find Out Who Your Friends Are. It was a solo version and a remix with Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney as guest vocalists.
The remixed version of Find Out Who Your Friends Are garnered Tracy Lawrence Musical Event of the Year honors at the 2007 CMA Awards. It was first award for Tracy from the association. The other single Til I Was a Daddy Too from the album For the Love was originally released in July 2007.
The single reached a peak of number 59 on country charts and was re-issued in January 2008. This time it could manage to reach at number 32. The album spawned its third single You Can't Hide Redneck in the fall of the current year.
Tracy Lawrence was Billboard's Top New Male Vocalist in 1992. The following he received the Academy of Country Music's Best New Artist and Top New Male Vocalist in 1993. Tracy has been noted for his energetic vibrant live performances and his singing has undoubtedly earned him a satisfied audience.
Tracy Lawrence is indeed a precious talent in the music world whose contributions can not go un-notice. Listen to the potential music of Tracy Lawrence that will surely run you over and make you rock.
