Fruit Bats emerged on the rock music horizon in 1997 as one of the entrants on the booming folk-rock landscape of the early 2000's. The band is popular as the music vehicle for talented rock musician Eric D Johnson. Formed in Chicago, the group has had numerous lineup changes over the course of their careers, but the quality of their music has remained impressive. Fruit Bats tickets are expected to generate good sales as the band now sets out on their upcoming tour. A promising career kicks off

Band leader and songwriting genius, Eric Johnson drafted members from the band I Rowboat to bring his project Fruit Bats to life. He recruited the help of Dan Strack and Brian Belval and launched the group in 1997. However, it wasn't until four years later that the band caught their first big break with a record deal with Perishable Records and released their debut album, Echolocation. The album earned promising reviews and modest commercial success, effectively putting the band on the map.

Soon after, the group was touring with some big names, including the Modest Mouse and The Shins. Their association with The Shins led to the Fruit Bats departure from Perishable Records and a new record deal with the popular indie pop label, Sub Pop in 2002.

Continuing experimentation with subsequent albums

The following years saw the group refine their lineup with the addition of multi-instrumentalist Gillian Lisee. By the time they released their sophomore effort the group had also begun to embrace more experimental rock and pop music elements. Their second studio album Mouthfuls was followed by Spelled in Bones, and the band continued to move away from the folk-rock foundations of their first album.   

The Ruminant Band

After the release of their third album, Johnson took a break to focus on other projects. He served as a sideman on bands like The Shins and Vetiver before reconvening the Fruit Bats in 2008 with a revised lineup. Their efforts resulted in the 2009 album The Ruminant Band, which Pitchfork described as the "best thing he's done yet." Their subsequent album Tripper came out in 2011 and proved to be an even bigger critical success than past albums, featuring at number fourteen on the "Top Heatseekers" chart.

Upcoming projects

Fruit Bats are currently working on their sixth studio album which is scheduled for release in early 2016. Prior to the album release, the group will be touring with My Morning Jacket in fall 2015. Johnson made these announcements on his Instagram account, sharing a picture of a handwritten letter in which he revealed that he is stoked at the prospect of Fruit Bats making their return after years of lying dormant.
