Carbon Leaf is an acclaimed indie rock group that is comprised of five members. The band hails from Richmond in Virginia in the United States of America. They are best known for their engaging Celtic, folk and alternative country blend of music. On the 20^th of March in 2010, they released a statement stating that they are retiring from Vanguard Records in an interview that they gave to WCNR. The reason for this was that they wanted to focus on releasing new songs more regularly by means of using other forms of media than CD.

The main music genres of the band are primarily indie rock, alternative country, roots rock, Celtic, folk rock, bluegrass and indie folk. They have actively been a part of the music industry since 1992 till the present day. The music recording label companies that they have been associated with are the Vanguard Records and the Constant Ivy Music Records. The band got their start in the music industry while they were practicing in an auditorium in 1992 at the popular Randolph-Macon College that is in Virginia. Later they began performing at a few mixers, backyard parties, sorority parties and fraternity. Once all the members of the band had graduated, they all shifted back to Richmond. From there they started performing in the college circuit all over in Virginia and also at the east Coast prior to shifting their focus on performing in clubs. In 1995, their debut album titled, Meander came out. The initial few songs that they had written such as "Country Monkee" as well as "One day" were included on this album. The album was received with immense amount of rave reviews.

In 1997, Carbon Leaf released their second album, Shadows in the banquet Hall. This album of theirs comprises of songs such as "Attica's Flower Box Window", "Flood" and "Wolftrap and Fireflies". These songs were a tremendous hit. They created an award winning video for their song "Flood" from this album. In 1999, they successfully recorded their first album with Jordan Mendas who is now the bassist of the band. The album was called Ether - Electrified Porch Music. It contained two hit songs, "American Tale" and "Home".  For the initial three independent albums of theirs, they ended up selling more than 10000 copies. In 1999, the band released their own label company called Constant Ivy Music.

In 2001, their fourth album known as Echo Echo came out. The first song on the album was called "the Boxer. The band won its first American Music Award for "The Boxer". They were also seen performing the song live at the AMA's which made them into the first band to have had the chance to perform at the awards show which happened to be an unsigned band. Soon after this, they were seen performing on several radio shows all over the country. By May 2002, all the members of the band had to leave their jobs and shift their focus entirely upon their music and touring. The band won the prestigious Pontiac Vibe in September 2002, with their song, "The Boxer" being played on commercials of Pontiac Vibe on VH1 as well as on MTV.

In 2004 their album Indian Summer was released. The album received an immense amount of fame. Their 7^th album called Nothing Rhymes with Woman came out on the 19^th of May in 2009. Their most recent release was in February 2013 called Ghost Dragon Attacks Castle.
