English guitarist and songwriter, Robyn Hitchcock has managed to enthrall millions around the world for over three decades. The musician has produced several chart breaking music albums with various bands and also produced critically acclaimed solo albums. Over the years, Robyn has established a loyal cult following. Robyn initially began his musical journey by joining various bands such as the Meatpackers, the Worst Fears, the Chosen Few, Swelterettes and B.B. Blackberry. In 1976, he became a part of The Soft Boys, a neo-psychedelic group. The band's first EP, 'Give It To The Soft Boys', was released in 1977. Robyn continued producing music with the band and released two more albums 'Underwater Moonlight' and 'A Can of Bees'. In 1981, he left the group to establish his solo career. His debut solo release, 'Black Snake Diamond Role' came out during the same year. With tracks like 'City of Shame', 'I Watch the Cars', 'Do Policemen Sing?' and 'The Man Who Invented Himself', the album scored a three and a half star rating by Allmusic.
Robyn's second solo album, 'Groovy Decay' was released in 1982. The artist was not satisfied with the final product and later re-released the album under the same name. In 1984, Robyn came out with an acoustic album 'I Often Dream of Trains'. The album was well received by critics and fans, and managed to shake off the effects of his previously failed album. The acoustic solo album garnered a score of four and a half star rating by Allmusic.
Robyn along with Morris Windsor, Andy Metcalfe and Roger Jackson, formed a new band The Egyptians in 1984. The group released its debut album 'Fegmania!' in 1985 that comprised songs such as 'Strawberry Mind', 'The Man With The Lightbulb Head' and 'My Wife And My Dead Wife'. Robyn continued producing several successful albums with the band such as 'Respect', 'Perspex Island', 'Queen Elvis', 'Globe of Frogs' and 'Element of Light'. After the disbandment of the Egyptians, Robyn started working on his solo career and released 'Moss Elixir' in 1996. The album was followed by a string of solo releases including 'Spooked', 'Luxor' and 'Jewels for Sophia' all of which garnered rave reviews from the audience and critics.
In 2006, Robyn joined hands with Venus 3, a group comprising Bill Rieflin, Scott McCaughey and Peter Buck. They released their first collaborative album 'Ole! Tarantula' in 2006 that had amazing tracks such as 'Cause Its Love', 'Underground Sun' and 'Adventure Rocket Ship'. The group released two more albums 'Propellor Time' and 'Goodnight Oslo' in 2010 and 2009 respectively. In 2011, Robyn produced another solo album 'Tromso, Kaptein' under the Hype City Label. The Jangle pop album consisted hit tracks such as 'Everything About You', 'Erasing Your Life' and 'Raining Twilight Coast'.
