Their next albums, The Queen Is Dead and Strangeways, Here We Come also rocked the UK Top Ten Charts and fared well with the music lovers of USA as well. After churning out four albums that reached Gold and performing in many successful live concerts, The Smiths had a split in 1987. This stared a new phase in the career of Morrissey as he decided to go solo. One year after the split of The Smith, his solo debut Viva Hate hit the market. In 1997, Morrissey released his last album, Maladjusted, before relocating from Dublin to Los Angeles. After changing his base, Morrissey continue his tour routines but did not get back to studio for a new album or single. Finally, You Are the Quarry announced the return of Morrissey and what a return it was. The album sold over a million copies thus becoming his highest grosser and also his highest on charts till that period. However, his next, a 2006 released Ringleader Of The Tormentors, beat that and topped the UK charts straightaway.

The year of 2007 saw Morrissey embarking on the Greatest Hits tour. The tour spanned on seventeen months where he did more than hundred concerts in over eight different countries. After the super success of this tour, expectations went sky high for his next album. Morrissey released his next in 2009. Tilted Years of Refusal, the album can be hailed as one of the best works of his entire career.
