Snow Maiden is Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's opera. It is a Russian libretto and was composed in 1880. The opera is basically based on a play by the same name written by Alexander Ostrovsky. Ostrovsky was a famous Russian playwright, considered as maybe the best of his time. He wrote more than forty seven plays during his life. Even today, his plays are read, included in school books and performed on the stage all across the globe, especially in Russia. If you want to attend the opera version near your town, grab cheap Snow Maiden tickets today.

Snow Maiden is majorly known as a fairy tale opera, taking the audience to lands unknown. Rimsky-Korsakov intended to present something different from the usual operas and bring a little magic to the stage. The usual idea of an opera is a sad tale presented in a serious way; however, this was a totally new idea. Though it was a not less than a big experiment, it worked real well and was a great hit. Exotic set designs and magnificent lightening effects make the opera even more enchanting. Apart from Snow Maiden, Rimsky-Korsakov is known for his orchestral compositions named Russian Easter Festival and Capriccio Espagnol.

Rimsky-Korsakov has also composed music repertoires and staples for about fourteen operas. Korsakov belonged to "The Five," a group of composers from the late 1880's. He was famous for bringing to stage the operas that had more of a touch of fantasy than reality. His adopted work also had a touch of folk lore. He tried to develop more of classical music that had a hint of nationalism. Along with The Five, which included Mily Balakirev, Alexander Borodin, Modest Mussorgsky, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and César Cui, he created a number of never to be forgotten operas.

Snow Maiden the opera presents a very exquisite story of an immortal maiden who is daughter of Fairy and Winter's monarchs. One day she gets to hear the lore of Lel, the shepherd, and the story develops a desire in her to become mortal. However, when she becomes mortal, she is rejected by Lel. A merchant falls in love with her and leaves her wife to be for her. When Snow Maiden finally forgets Lel and falls in love with the merchant, a tragedy strikes when she melts by the touch of the sun. The opera has been taken to stages worldwide and has always received a great audience.

Snow Maiden was staged for the very first time on 29th of January, 1882 at Saint Petersburg's "Mariinsky Theater." It was conducted by the famous composer and conductor Eduard Nápravník. The opera was edited and restaged in 1889, a version which is staged across the globe today. The version was composers very own favorite as well.

Snow Maiden the opera is appropriate for all age groups. The best part of it is that you can take your children to attend the show as well; it will be of everyone's interest. The colorful costumes along with a magical story are definitely going to be a complete family fun. If you wish to attend it, you better book cheap Snow Maiden tickets in advance because the show usually witnesses sold out events and in the end it becomes hard to get hands on good seating.
