Sleeping Beauty Tickets

Sleeping Beauty tickets will take you on a delightful journey to a magical world where princesses, magic spells and fairy godmothers exist. The Sleeping Beauty is a ballet that surfaced in 1890 as a three act prologue. The ballet debuted at the Mariinsky Theatre. It features musical compositions by the legendary Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Marius Petipa is responsible for the extravagant choreography of the show. The ballet is widely regarded as "one of the classical repertoire's most famous ballets."

Now Royal Ballet is bringing The Sleeping Beauty shows in an arena near you. The ballet is an adaptation of the fairy-tale novel, Undine. Udine is the story of a water spirit, who marries Huldebrand, a knight, to gain a soul.

Based on La Belle au bois dormant by Charles Perrault, the original scenario was first imagined by Ivan Vsevolozhsky. Later on it was decided that Pyotr will be working on composing music for Charles Perrault's La Belle au bois dormant (The Beauty Sleeping in the Wood). The ballet scenario featuring Pyotr's work is based on the 'Dornröschen' version.

In this version of the story, Sleeping Beauty's parents survive the hundred year sleep and are a part of her wedding ceremony. Ivan however incorporated numerous other characters to the ballet from Perrault's stories.  The stories included "Cinderella,""Puss in Boots,""Little Red Riding Hood" and more. Some characters were also included from French fairy tales such as "Pretty Goldilocks," and "Beauty and the Beast".

The ballet master of the Imperial Ballet, Maris Petipa meticulously outlined the detailed instructions regarding the ballet's musical requirements. With everything in order, Pyotr started working on the new work. The initial sketches were in process in 1888 whereas the orchestration started the following year in the summer of 1889.

The focus of the ballet remained on two conflicting points, the good (the Lilac Fairy) and the evil (Carabosse). Each of the characters had a leitmotif which continued throughout the ballet.

The world premiere of the ballet was conducted at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in 1890. The Moscow premiere was performed in 1899 at the Moscow Imperial Bolshoi Theatre. Other notable productions of the show include The Sleeping Princess at the Alhambra Theatre London in 1921.

The ballet opens showing a celebratory day, the day Princess Aurora is born. The King and the Queen invite everyone over. They are overwhelmed by the countless blessings showered by the guests on their newly born. The festivities of the day come to an end when the wicked fairy Carabosse makes an appearance. She casts a curse on the child, that one day she will die with a prick of her finger. However, the Lilac Fairy intervenes.

When the unfortunate day arrives, instead of dying, the Princess falls into a never ending sleep and so does the entire palace. After a century, a Prince comes into view who has the power to wake up Princess Aurora with a kiss. The Lilac Fairy guides the Prince into the woods where the Sleeping Beauty sleeps.
