The San Jose Earthquakes are silicon valleys very own and  San Jose city's professional soccer team. Nicked as Quakes, The Boys in Blue and Los Terremotos de San José, the team has been an integral player in the MLS. A part of the Major League Soccer the Earthquakes qualify as one of its ten charter members. The Earthquakes house their home game s and train at the Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara. Earthquakes Soccer, LLC owns the team which is coached by Frank Yallop. San Jose stands at number fourteen in the MLS and number seven in the Western Conference. The team has still not qualified for a playoff. The Earthquakes are supported by the 1906 Ultras, Club Quake and The Casbah.

Similar to any soccer cub the Club culture of the Sa Jose Earthquakes is infected with rivalries. The California Clasico and Heritage Cup (MLS) brings together the Earthquakes' and their arch rivals, Los Angeles Galaxy in a tug of war.  With a decade long history of cut throat competition the team equipped themselves with rivalries at the California Clasico. The intrastate rivalry with C.D. Chivas USA is another one that beings local level rivalry into action. Houston Dynamo also landed up in a rivalry as Earthquakes left it to go back to San Jose .
 
The team debuted in MLS' inaugural season and scooped a proud win by taking down the D.C. United team with a 1-0 score.  From 1996 to 2000, the team entered and the league and missed thee playoffs.  From 200 to 2005 the Earthquakes made commendable progress on the competition front by winning MLS Cup in 2001 and 2003. The Earthquakes almost made its first entrance on the CONCACAF Champions Cup or the CONCACAF Champions League. As a debutant it went up all the way to the quarterfinals it made its presence felt in the conference and returned with commendable show of game and spirit.
 
The San Jose Earthquakes also earned the 2005 MLS Supporters' Shield. The MLS season 2005 winded up ad so did the franchise; as it went on an official hiatus  as per relocation of key team players and head coach along with his coaching staff to Texas. After playing for Houston as Houston Dynamo the Earthquakes made a comeback in the 2008 season, all set and uplifted to play for their home town once again.

The San Jose Earthquakes return this season  and  are trying to make this comeback a worthwhile effort. With a fifteen years of professional soccer playing the team has kept a positive profile that has experienced a major uplift in the past four season. This fifth seasonal facelift has made the Earthquakes a top notch American soccer team.
