Russian National Orchestra
The Russian National Orchestra has been running high on the music scene even since its Moscow premiere in 1990. With reference to the orchestras BBC proms in London in 1996, the Evening Standard wrote, They played with such captivating beauty that the audience gave an involuntary sigh of pleasure.

They have also been called a living symbol of the best in Russian art (Miami Herald) and as close to perfect as one could hope for (Trinity Mirror).

It is the first Russian orchestra which has performed at the Vatican and in Israel. The Russian National Orchestra (RNO) has performed in Europe, Asia and the Americas deeming its hectic international tour schedule.

Guest conductors who have performed with the RNO on tour include Vladimir Jurowski, Nicola Luisotti, Antonio Pappano, Alan Gilbert, Carlo Ponti and Patrick Summers, and solo artists include Martha Argerich, Yefim Bronfman, Lang Lang, Pinchas Zukerman, Sir James Galway, Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, Steven Isserlis, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Simone Kermes and Renee Fleming, and many others.

National Public Radio in the United states and the European Broadcasting Union regularly air RNO concerts captivating the large fanfare across the globe.

The first RNO CD released in 1991 was termed by Gramophone magazine as ) an awe-inspiring experience; should human beings be able to play like this? and it was also categorized as the best recording of Tchaikovskys Pathetique til then.

From that time onwards, the orchestra has recorded more than 60 compositions for the Deutsche Grammophon and Pentaone Classics. This has characterized the RNO as the only Russian orchestra which has such an old relationship with these esteemed labels, in addition to discs with numerous other record companies.

Founder and Music Director Mikhail Pletnev, Principal Guest Conductor Vladimir Jurowski, Kent Nagano, Alexander Vedernikov and Paavo Berglund are some of those dignified conductors who have represented and led the RNO discography.

The RNO became the first Russian orchestra to win the highest honor in the recording business in 2004 when it received a Grammy Award for its recording of Prokofievs Peter and the Wolf and Beintuss Wolf tracks, conducted by Kent Nagano and narrated by Sophia Loren, Bill Clinton and Mikhail Gorbachev.

Antonio Banderas narrated a Spanish version and it was released in 2007, which was followed by a Russian version narrated by actors Oleg Tabakov and Sergei Bezrukov. This was followed by mandarin and other versions thereafter.

The highly praised Shostakovich cycle on PentaTone Classics performed by the orchestra has been described as the most exciting cycle of the Shostakovich symphonies to be put down on disc, and easily the best recorded. (SACD.net)

The RNO is the founding orchestra of Napa Valley Festival del Sole, Festival of the Arts BOCA in Florida, and the Singapore Sun Festival. It is also resident orchestra for many seasons of the Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona, Italy.

The RNO is also a frequent visitor to the Schleswig-Holstein, Gstaad and Rheingau festivals. In 2009, the Orchestra will launch its own annual festival, the venue being the Bolshoi theatre in Moscow.

The RNO is a private body, exceptional amongst the principal Russian orchestras, which is sponsored by individuals, corporations and foundations based in Russia and other countries.

Its originality and trend setting qualities have been recognized by the Russian Federation which recently awarded the RNO a non-government grant for the first time ever.
