The troupe was founded back in Paris by Bernie Schurch, Floriana Frassetto and Andres Bossard in 1972. The mask theatre that we know off as Mummenschanz came into existence after a thorough three-year long experimentation and studies; in 1972. The following year, the troupe started touring and it hit various venues in South America, Canada as well as United States. Soon after the show went on to be staged on Broadway in 1977, and stayed there up till 1980 and gave 1326 performances. In 1995, the troupe also went on to their world tour called Parade on which they performed alongside a renowned American actor John Murphy. The most recent production that emerged from the Mummenschanz's end is a show called 40 years which marks the fortieth anniversary celebration of the troupe. The show is a summary of Mummenschanz journey through the pages of history and it presents the greatest moments from the troupe's history.
