Date & Time

Jon Anderson is an English progressive rock artist from Accrington in Lancashire within England. He is known as a vocalist, a songwriter and a musician who plays the harp, the guitar, percussion and keyboards. He entered the world of music in 1963 and has since then been seen live by many Americans with Jon Anderson tickets in their pockets. His music is mainly labeled as progressive rock but it also contains influences of new age music, symphonic rock and pop rock. He has been signed onto many record labels including Atlantic Records, Columbia Records, Polydor Records, Angel Records, Voiceprint Records and Eagle Records. He has been associated with bands such as Yes, The Warriors, the supergroup Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, Jon & Vangelis and King Crimson. He is also best known as the lead vocalist of Yes, one of the best progressive rock bands, and for his successful career as a solo artist.

While studying at the St. John'sInfantsSchool, Jon Anderson began playing music as part of the Little John's Skiffle Group. In this act, he played the washboard and its songs were sung by artists such as Lonnie Donegan. He then went on to work on many jobs including being a milkman and a farm hand, even going so far as to pursue a career as a pro soccer player. It was in 1962 that he joined the band The Warriors where he was the lead vocalist alongside his brother. In 1957, he left the band and released two songs after which he became the lead vocalist of The Open Mind and The Gun. In 1968, he joined the band Mabel Greer's Toyshop as its lead vocalist.

In the late sixties, Jon Anderson alongside Chris Squire, Peter Banks, Tony Kaye and Bill Bruford formed the band Yes. The first album by this band was released in 1969. He acted not only as the lead vocalist of the band but also as the band leader and the creative force behind the band's success. He was responsible for some of the best songs by Yes including The Gates of Delirium, Close to the Edge and Awaken. In the eighties, Yes released the album 90125, the band's most successful album to date. This album was followed by many more hit albums and in 1989, Jon Anderson left the band to form a group alongside other Yes members. This group was known as Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe and known simply as ABWH. It released a very successful first album and then later on joined with Yes.

In 1991, after Jon Anderson rejoined Yes, the band released the album Union. He remained a member of this band until 2008 and has been part of all of the albums of Yes except for two released in 2008 and 2011. He has also gone on many popular tours alongside Yes and alongside other famous artists. He has also collaborated with many artists including the Vangelis. In 2011, he began working with Rabin and Wakerman on a new album and also planned out a number of live concerts all over the world. He is noted for his alto tenor voice and has been interviewed by many newspapers and magazines including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. His lyrics are mostly mystically inspired and make up many of Yes's songs and the band's music as a whole. These lyrics are inspired by books such as War and Peace by Tolstoy and Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. His songwriting usually features themes such as pacifism, environmentalism and even Mayan culture, as portrayed by sun-worship.
Jon Anderson has also written songs for bands such as Iron Butterfly and even composed a ballet score for the dance work Ursprung performed by The Scottish Ballet. He has worked on many songs with Jon & Vangelis and gone on tours of the US and the UK. His songs have been part of the soundtracks of many movies including Scream for Help, Legend, Biggles: Adventures in Time and St. Elmo's Fire.

To date, Jon Anderson has released fifteen solo albums, eighteen albums with Yes and twenty two albums with other groups and artists. He is an artist who has over four decades of experience performing live and added to his breathtaking music, his live performances are definitely some of the most anticipated events with Jon Anderson tickets most certainly being sold out many times.
