Jamie Foxx is a famous Oscar winner African American actor of United States. He is also an equally renowned singer musician and stand-up comedian.

His original name was Eric Marlon Bishop; and he was born on December 13, 1967. Foxx is has got the fame and critical acclaim for his fine portrayal of musician Ray Charles in Ray.

He has been honored to be the third African American to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. Foxx has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 14, 2007.

Foxx was born and raised in the town of Terrell in Texas. His father used to work as the stockbroker and converted to Islam at later time, he had changed his name Shahid Abdullah. Foxx was actually adopted and raised by his grandmother and he had little contact with his actual parents.

He was raised on very strict Baptist principles. He has always expressed the great influence of his grandmother on his life. She was the driving force behind the learning of Piano, at a young age of five.

He had studied classical music in college. He had also been a good player of football at Terrell High School, and had all the aim to play for the Dallas Cowboys.

Foxx had actually entered in the world of showbiz, by doing the stand up career in San Diego while attending USIU. It was the time when he had changed his name and started doing stand up comedy. Foxx had joined the cast of "In Living Color" in the year of 1991.

He had immediately gained recognition and acclaim for performing some of the most wonderful and amazing characters and impressions, which included: ugly girl Wanda; fictitious boxer Carl "The Tooth" Williams; and The Dirty Dozens champion T-Dog Jenkins. Jamie had also got a small recurring role on the live episodes of the TV series Roc, where his brilliant performance as Garrett Morris had got him the permanent role in the Saturday Night Live cast in his own sitcom, named "The Jamie Foxx Show".

Foxx's had a very delightful start in the Hollywood film industry with a great role in Oliver Stone's 1999 film "Any Given Sunday", where he had portrayed the role of a heavy-partying American football player. He was included in the cast because of his background as a football player.

Foxx has won great respect for being a serious and mature performer. Foxx"s later movies include a role of a taxi driver in the film "Collateral" alongside Tom Cruise; he had received great reviews and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

His standout performance, however, was his portrayal of Ray Charles in the biopic Ray, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. Foxx is the second male, and the first African American, in history to receive two acting Oscar nominations in the same year for two different movies, Collateral and Ray.

He has been continuously performing as a musician and singer, along with the performances in the films, as music is his primary passion.
