Son of the renowned football player "Tam Kon-pak," Alan Tam was born in 1950. His father was a national figure who represented the National Team of Republic of China in the Summer Olympics held in 1936. Alan discovered his love for music while he was studying in the secondary school. Along with a couple of friends, Alan formed his first band "The Wynners." The band participated in an amateur music contest and managed to surprise everyone by winning the first prize. The success at the contest led the band towards making an entry into the music industry and they made numerous appearances on TVB shows. After awhile the group disbanded, however in 1973, Alan reformed the band along with "Kenny Bee." Alan served as the lead vocalist of the band that garnered popularity for playing mostly English songs. In 1978, the group once again disbanded.
 
Alan Tam started to work on a solo career. In 1979, he released his debut solo album "Naughty Boy" that quickly brought him under the limelight. His later albums including "Half Dazed, Half Awoken," "Flower in Water," "Embrace" and "Love in Autumn" garnered commercial success for the artist and sold millions of copies around the globe. He won his first major award in 1981 at the RTHK Top 10 Gold Songs Awards. He released a trilogy of successful albums in 1984 and 1985. During the eighties, Alan had a major impact on the cantopop music and managed to bag a "Top 10 Song Award" every year from 1981 to 1988. He also won the Jade Solid Gold Award for "Top 10 Songs" for five consecutive years beginning in 1983. Alan collaborated with "Kim Wan-Sun," a popular Korean artist, to produce the English record "My Love" in 1993.
 
In 2003, Alan Tam and "Hacken Lee" collaborated on a major world tour, "Left Alan Right Hacken," that brought live performances by both the artists to America, Canada, China, Macau, Hong Kong and other South Asian countries. In 2006, Alan was honored with the "Song Honor Award" at the 25th Anniversary Jade Solid Gold Award for his fast-paced number "Love Trap." The following year he was awarded the "Hall of Fame Award" for his immense contribution to the Chinese and Hong Kong music industry by the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong. Apart from a successful music career, Alan also achieved commercial success as an actor.  After hosting "The Wynners Show" during the seventies, he appeared in a television series "Over the Rainbow." In 1980, he joined the Taiwan's film industry and starred in several feature films including "Part Time Job," "The Funny Couple" and "A Girl Without Sorrow." He also co-starred along the famous actor "Jackie Chan" in the "Armour of God." He was awarded the "Best Actor Award" for his role in "If I Were For Real" at the Golden Horse Awards in 1981.
