White Plains has a rich and long history. Signs of first Dutch settlement date back to the early 17th century. It was the time when area was inhabited by Weckquaeskeck Native American tribe who used to refer to this land as 'Quarrops'. The traders of those times came to call this place 'the White Plains' which remains the name of the city to date. First non Native American settlement is said to be formed in 1683. From that time to the 19th century, the city of White Plains has seen much bloodshed but gladly enough, those days are over.
