The climate of the city is typical that of the state. Summers are short and almost pleasantly warm. Average summer temperatures hover around 23 C. Below freezing point is the common winter temperature. December is the wettest month in terms of rainfall with over 300 inches of rainfall every year. Rains are otherwise evenly spread throughout the year. The city is connected via many bridge and highways. The local transport is provided by Grand River Transit which makes it easy to move about in the city.
Today, the city of Waterloo stands on a ground which was purchased from the Natives in 1780s and 1790s. Settlements began almost immediately. Many a people started pouring in from Pennsylvania and other regions, they too purchased the land in order to settle in the area. in 1805, some twenty six Mennonites bought all of the remaining unsold land and divided it into smaller pieces of land, two of which were owned by Abraham Erb and had a sawmill as well as a grist mill. It was his land which became, later on, the center of the city of Waterloo. This is why he is referred to as the founder of Waterloo. The city was named Waterloo in 1816 after the Belgian city of Waterloo due to its significance in the Battle of Waterloo. Later, in 1857 the city was incorporated and in 1948, it became the City of Waterloo. Home to numerous galleries, museums and studios, arts and culture is more like a religion for the City of Waterloo. The Glass Gallery is a major cultural attraction along with the Canadian Clay. Other than that, the city is studded with Public artworks which can be seen in every nook and cranny of the city.
