The small community of Villanova is located in Pennsylvania, US. Since the community of Villanova was formed as a result of the Villanova University, their histories intertwine. 200 acre land was purchased by 2 Augustinian friars in 1841 with the intention of starting a school. It was initially called the 'Augustinian College of Villanova' when it opened it 1842. The school was expanded in 1890s. It finally started the School of Technology in 1905. With the launching of BS programs in 1926, the school became a college. Until 1918, Villanova offered education to male students only. By 1958, full permanent classes for women began. By 1968, it had become Villanova University and a coeducation institution. As the university enrolled multitudes of student, the area around it slowly was inhabited by coffee shops, cafes and in some cases the families of the faculty members. That is how Villanova community was formed.
Due to the fact that the community of Villanova was founded after the university, most of the events held here are related to academics, like debates, lectures, meetings with authors etc. The university sporting events are the also the sporting events for the community. It surrounds the whole campus of Villanova University. It has a collection of over 1500 trees of various species.
