History
The Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto for the first time came to the place which is now termed as Tallahassee sometime in the year 1539 -1540 and found an Apalachee village. Later in 1821, when the United States officially acquired Florida from Spain, the site of Tallahassee was declared as the capital of the territory of Florida. The city was incorporated in the year1825. The citys name is derived from an Apalachee term meaning old town.

John G. Riley center of African History and Culture
The famous Riley House is the only home which still exists since the year 1890. This home has been preserved and was once owned by a freed slave. The house exhibits historical art work and photographs depicting life in Tallahassee and Florida from 1865 to 1968. Historical publications and Riley souvenirs are available onsite in the gift shop.
Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee
The Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee is built on a 32,000 square foot land. This center is part of he Florida State University and is established to promote science and technology.
The learning center is built on an aerospace theme and gives positive learning experience to students encouraging them to pursue careers in these unique fields. The Challenger features a Space Mission Simulator and boasts a planetarium. Students find this both an educational and entertaining experience.
