From state of the art event venues to various restaurants offering diverse array of cuisines, from lush green parklands to energetic nightclubs and pubs; the city of Manassas has it all. The history of the city goes all the way back to the times of American Civil War when the Battle of Manassas (in 1861) and the Second Battle of Manassas (in 1862) were fought in the area. Battles were fought due to the railroad crossing that was in the city of Manassas. The rails from the Manassas's railroad led to Washington D.C, Virginia, Richmond and Shenandoah Valley, which made Manassas an important strategic location. By the end of the war, Manassas attained the status of a town and was duly incorporated in 1873. The town later, in 1892, became the county seat of the Prince William County as well. In 1900's the city grew and by 1975 Manassas became an independent city.
The city of Manassas is engulfed with loads of sights of attractions. The city houses Pied Piper Theatre that stages various kinds of high quality theatrical productions. Every year the theatre hosts various musicals, plays, live concerts and various other events of performing arts. The theatre also runs an education and training program for those young actors, composers, directors and dancers aspiring to excel in their respective profession. Students who outdo themselves are also appointed as the directors or the producers of the theatre. Over the year's Pied Piper Theatre has produced some of the finest theatrical productions and it intends to carry on its tradition this year, as the upcoming productions at the theatre include the productions of Peter Pan and the Wizard of the Oz. The Pied Piper Theatre is the part of Center for the Arts. The Center for the Arts provides professional education and training in the field of performing arts both to Young ones and adults. Some of the programs offered by the center include Outreach for At-Risk Youth, Rooftop Productions, Summer Theatre Camps and Classes in the Performing and Visual Arts. The Center of Arts itself is located within the Hopkins Candy Factory. Prior to the factory's lease to the Center of the Arts, the factory operated as a proper candy factory. The building of the factory was erected back in the May of 1900 and was owned by C.A.S Hopkins. Somewhere around 1917 the production in the factory stopped due to some reasons and the building was then donated to the city of Manassas subject to its historic significance. Some other places of interest in the city include Liberia Plantation, Industrial School & Jennie Dean Memorial, James & Marion Payne memorial, Civil War Driving & Walking Trail, and Mayfield Fort.
