Details of Elmira and the Ticket Luck value
If history is on your mind, then Elmira should be your choice. Education and recreation combine to form the city that is better known to us as Elmira. The city stood witness to a treaty between United States and Iroquois that ended the Battle of Newton in 1791. Miller's Pond and Miller Street are named after the first settler at Elmira- Abraham Miller who belonged to the continental Army. The town of Elmira traces its roots to an intersection of a creek and river- Newton Creek and Chemung River. An establishment at this place grew over the years to form a village initially known as the Township of Chemung which was later changed to Town of Elmira. Teal's Tavern is another lesson in history for it served as the place where the town meeting was held and the decision reached upon for the name change, way back in 1808. The City of Elmira is surrounded on three sides by the town of Elmira and is today better known as The Queen City.
Easy access is what this city spells out! The city has been the transportation nucleus since the beginning of the nineteenth century. It bonded Rochester and Buffalo via railway tracks and a canal system to Albany and New York. It ties to Corning via the Junction Canal and to Pennsylvania via the Susquehanna Canal System. It also joined New York Central via the Erie Railroad. The history class continues. The city also served as domicile to a Civil War prison camp in 1864 and for the very reason was known among those imprisoned as Hellmira. However, after the end of the war, the prison was closed and the area converted into farmland. Today, the site is a residential area.
Boring is not Elmira, and Elmira is not boring. If you miss a chance for a picnic at the Elbridge Park, then you miss everything. A walk back in time is what awaits you. The marble statuary, flower gardens, lake, driving paths, walks pavements and fountains all bring alive the feel and aura of the Victorian times. You need not open a book to experience the quixotic pleasures and the innocent purity characteristic of those times. You can take a live walk through one.The entire history of the city is displayed in forms of historical artifacts exhibited at the Chemung Valley History Museum. Being a historical city, the city has preserved its rich chronological genetics. A history class without a visit to the museum is a class that ended without beginning.
If its not history but arts you are interested in, the city will not disappoint you. The Arnot Art Museum is a treat for all art lovers. From Egyptian art to modern sculptures, the museum features artists from Maine to Delaware. This one is for all those environmentalists out there- Elmira houses the Tanglewood Nature Center which boasts a wood trail, meadows and two hiking trails. The Center also holds seminar and workshops for the educational uplift of children in order to impress upon them the need to cherish and preserve wildlife and nature.
You name it and this city has it! If nature is not on your mind then speed and aviation is bound to be your weakness. Located at a height, the National Soaring Museum, offers a splendid view of the valley below- it could not have been more aptly located to do justice to its name. The museum brags of more than 60 ships waiting restoration to be put on display for the speedsters. It is a living tribute to the expertise, class, strength and persistence of the aviation experts of all times. However its feature of lust and lure for many is its exclusive collection of glider plans and sailplanes. So if you like strong winds gushing at you at top speeds, then this is the place to be.
As an icing on the cake, the Wings of Eagles museum is situated not far away at 17 Aviation Drive Horseheads. Military flights and speed join hands together to satisfy you with a perfect experience of a true flight. The Museum pays homage to those dedicated to defend the country in all times- Elmira hence has its share of patriotism. Guys, what are you waiting for! Grab a pen and pick up the phone to make that call for a ticket reservation to Elmira, the city of class, speed arts and history! Better still open up your laptop and book ticket online, now!
