Dundee - fully named as Dundee City - is the fourth-largest city in Scotland and one of Scotlands 32 local government council areas. The history of Dundee dates back to the Picts in the Iron Age when the city was a site of many battles. Later on, an industrial revolution was brought about which turned the city into civilized nation. Throughout the Industrial Revolution, the local jute industry caused the city to grow rapidly. During this course, Dundee also earned a reputation for its marmalade industry and journalism, earning it a moniker, the city of Jute, jam and journalism.

The city is also home to the Scottish Dance Theatre, which is based in its renowned Dundee Repertory Theatre. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra regularly performs at Dundees principal concert auditorium Caird Hall. On 5 March 2004, Dundee was given Fairtrade City status.
Culture
Dundee plays host to several repertory theaters and is home to the Scotlands only full-time repertory ensemble, established in 1930s. One of its alumni, Hollywood actor Brian Cox is a native of the city. Another must-visit entertainment venue is the Dundee Repertory Theatre, known for providing a base for Scottish Dance Theatre.
