Located in the County of Newell is a booming city of Alberta, Brooks. The city is about 1 hour West of Medicine Hat and 2 hours East of Calgary.
Brooks was incorporated as a village on July 14, 1910, as a town on September 8, 1911 and as a city on September 1, 2005. The city has a diverse population of over 13,000 people from different backgrounds and cultures who work in a number of industries.
Also are found here many new Landers. Brooks has a very strong and active agriculture, oil patch and service industry. Many people from all over Canada are moving here either to work at Lakeside or to work the oil patch.
Industry
The city of Brooks is nestled in the settings of one of Albertas most active gas fields, and thus is home to regional offices of numerous major gas and oil companies. However, the other sectors like agriculture and the retail and service sector have also significant contributions to the economy of the region.
Unfortunately, in 2005, the job dispute took place between workers at Tyson foods and Lakeside Packers. During the dispute, some employees and one RCMP officer were attacked. Plant workers claimed inhumane and unfair business practices at the site. The dispute brought to a strike resulting in one union official and employees physically injured. The strike gained national attention before being resolved and lasted for several weeks.
Community
Brooks is one of fastest growing and booming municipalities in Alberta with a flavor of diverse culture unique to other similar sized communities in Alberta. The city is steadily developing with residential as well as commercial expansion.
It also has world class educational facilities including two junior and high schools, three elementary schools, one primary and a satellite campus of Medicine Hat College. Brooks has taken away the title for Communities in Bloom competition four times consecutively.

The Lakeside Leisure center has two hockey curl rinks, an aquatic center and many well-equipped rooms.
The aquatic center encompasses a hot tub, sauna and steam room, waterslide, wave pool, a fitness center, a gymnasium and a large swimming pool. The leisure center offers a perfect place for the entire family; fitness and relaxation. You can either stroll along the regional provincial parks; most popular are Dinosaur Provincial Park, Kinbrook Island Provincial Park and Tillebrook Provincial Park.
Dinosaur Provincial Park is a world renowned park nestled in the Badlands of Alberta. It is only-of-its-kind place and is surely worth checking out. The heritage site is the home of many Dinosaur bones and many rattler snakes. Its never less than a treat to be in the Dinosaur Provincial Park as you will also find a fishing river, a full serviced campground, a museum, and tons of land to explore on.
Among other popular hobbies in the Brooks grassland areas is the Dirt Biking. There are many locations in the prairie to go biking and a motocross track in south of town. Brooks is also home to two main Motorbike shops including Hole shot and All Season Cycle.
Also of interest is the Egans Irish Pub located in the North end of Brooks. People of all ages are guaranteed to find something of their taste here. The Egans pub is known for its excellent luscious food, domestic and imported beer with a restaurant and bar half.
The pub also owns an outside patio and presents with daily drink specials. Enjoy the echoing atmosphere and throbbing amenities at Ezzies Nightclub, located at the north end of town. The Ezzies is quite a happening place especially if you catch it on weekends.
Events
Several happening events and festivals are celebrated throughout the region providing people with fun, entertainment and excitement. One such much-liked event is The Brooks Trade Show which is held at the Lakeside Leisure center annually. Both local trades and trades from around the city participate together to show off what they have to offer.
Checking out some new interesting gadgets or technologies is something what you wont want to miss. Also, treat yourself to the mini doughnuts and candy apples. The event attracts approximately around 5000 visitors each year.
