Yann Tiersen is a recognized French musician best known for his threefold talent for making incredible studio albums, coming up with exciting collaborative projects and creating distinctive film soundtracks. His soundtracks are often characterized by their wide range of instruments which comprise primarily of violin, guitar of synthesizer combined with melodic, accordion, harpsichord as well as unusual sound sources such as a typewriter xylophone, or toy piano.

In the past, he has often been mistaken for being a soundtrack composer, prompting him to tell his fans that he is in fact not one since he really does not come from a classical background. His main focus is on making studio albums and touring, which incidentally happen to befit what films need. His most popular soundtrack featured in the film Amelie was initially created from a composite of his first couple of studio albums. He is known to have worked with the likes of Dominique A, Bastard, The Married Monk, Olivier Mellano, Claire Pichet, Shannon Wright, Yael Naim, bonnie Prince Billy, Nicolas Jorio, David Donatien, Nightwood, octopus Christine Ott, Sylvain Chauveau, Chapelier Fou, DAAU, Natacha Regnier and Matt Elliott, among others. Yann Tiersen tickets are considered to be quite a treat among hardcore, minimalist and avant-garde music fans.

Yann Tiersen grew up taking musical education at various places in Rennes, Boulogne and Nantes, learning to play the piano and violin while also receiving classical training. His exposure in Rennes turned out to be particularly beneficial for him since the place in home to the famous music festival of Rencontres Trans Musicals that are held yearly every December. Though the latter, he got the opportunity to listen to artists such as Suicide, The Cramps, Television, Nick Dave and Bad Seeds, Nirvana and Einsturzende.

After a few years, his band broke up so that he found himself buying an inexpensive mixing desk along with a reel-to-reel, eight-track audio tape recording and began recording music solos with a sampler, a drum machine and a synthesizer. Prior to releasing his film scores, he recorded the background music for several short films and plays. By the summer of 1993, he had stayed at his apartment, making music alone with a violin, an accordion, and an electric guitar, following his vision of creating musical anarchy. Towards end of summer, the young artist had recorded as many as over forty tracks that would be forming a major part of his first two studio albums, La Valse des monsters and Rue des cascades.

Yann Tiersen finally rose to prominence in 1998 with his third album release called Le Phare, which he recorded in complete seclusion, and it went on to sell more than a hundred and sixty thousand copies. This confirmed his status as the new and upcoming artist in the cater stage among artists from his generation. The first three songs from the album Sur le fil, La Noyee, and La Dispute were later featured as soundtracks of the film Amelie. Also the song L'Homme aux bras ballants, composed and written by Dominique A, became the soundtrack to the 1997 short animation film by Laurent Gorgiard. Monochrome, the single sung by Dominique, became a hit on radio, propelling the record into mainstream popularity. Le Phrase is his first album that charted in French Albums Chart up to number fifty.

Yann Tiersen's music carries strong influence from the classical training he had as a child as well as by the punk subculture prevalent in the USA and Britain at the time. His sound has been quoted to be exceptionally easy to recognize but exceedingly difficult to exactly catalogue. His style has varied tremendously from one record to the next. His low tempo compositional techniques incorporate elements of folk and Classical music along with rock and pop. Tiersen's delicately orchestrated, profoundly emotional manner of music has likened him to the likes of Romantic music masters, Erik Satie and Frederic Chopin. The maestro performs some of the most breathtaking live shows not to be missed so get hold of some cheap Yann Tiersen tickets before they are all hogged.
