The Vermont Lake Monsters are a baseball team from Minor League Baseball in the Short-Season A Classification as New York Penn League. The Lake Monsters are an affiliate team of the Oakland Athletics. They play their entire home games at the popular Centennial Field which is located on the campus of the University of Vermont located in Burlington in Vermont. Previously the team was based in Jamestown in New York and was known as the Jamestown Expos. Before the season of 1994, the team was Nationals/Expos associates till their creation in September in 2012. Then the team affiliated with the Oakland Athletics.

Acclaimed businessman named Ray Pecor to who the ownership of the Lake Champlain Transportation Company belongs to since 1976 in Burlington, bought the Jamestown Expos in 1993. After the ownership changed, they re-located and shifted the franchise to Burlington and kept the name of Vermont Expos. On the 16th of June in 1994, this baseball team played their very first game at the Centennial Field. Over 5,000 baseball fans were in attendance at its first game.

On the 29th of September in 2004, the Montreal Expos announced that they were moving to Washington, D.C., right after the season of 2004 came to an end. The Montreal Expos decided to change their name to the Washington Nationals after their re-location. The MLB (Minor League Baseball) by law gives its clubs sixty days when a season ends to change their logos as well as their names. The Vermont Lake Monsters did not have much time at their hands then and kept their nickname of Expos till the season of 2005.

When the 2005 season kicked off, this minor league baseball franchise finally announced of its plan to transform its nickname and then gave the option for choosing a new name for the team to its fans. The club got more than 30,000 suggestions from its fans for its new name. Finally, "Lake Monsters" was chosen and with the team's new uniforms and colors were revealed to the media on the 15th of November in 2005. The official colors of the Lake Monsters are green, Columbia Blue and navy blue. Their last game as Vermont Expos took place on the 8th of September in 2005. The season of 2006 was inaugurated with the team's new name of Vermont Lake Monsters.

The season of 2010 was the last one in which the team played the game as official affiliates of the known Washington Nationals. In the middle of September in 2010, the Nationals revolutionized their teams and signed up with the Auburn Doubledays as the new affiliate of the team. By the end of September 2010, the Oakland A's signed a contract of two years with the Lake Monsters to have them as their new affiliates. For the first time in fourteen years, the Lake Monsters were not an affiliate of the Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos. Ultimately in June in 2011, Lake Monsters embarked on its first year as an official affiliate of the Oakland A's.

The Vermont Lake Monsters enjoy a massive fan following. Over the year, they have given such exceptional performances that nearly all of their games are jam packed.
