The two shows that are making their way to the main stage are scheduled to be held at the Isaac Stern Auditorium in New York and the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox. Inaugurated in 2012, the National Youth Orchestra of United States of America, shortly known as NYO-USA was formed to provide young instrumentalists a platform to perform internationally. Since 1940 it is the very first youth orchestra that aims at inspiring and promoting upcoming young musicians to pursue their passion. Following the format of this youth orchestra that was established in 1940 i.e. the All-American Youth Orchestra, the NYO-USA also operates along the same lines as the renowned National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. The idea for the formation of the NYO-USA was presented by the Weill Music Institute. The organization worked along with Sir Clive Gillinson, artistic and executive director of Carnegie Hall, to form the annual showcase.

Musicians who perform each summer are between the age of 16 and 19 and are taken in after an intense application and audition process. These musicians then receive a two week residency to train them in a professional manner so they can embark on an international tour. The repertory of the 2013 tour brought forth works by Sean Shepherd, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. Their compositions namely "Magiya", "Voilin Concerto" and "Symphony No. 1" were recreated. The 120 musicians that became a part of the four city tour were chosen after auditions were held in 42 states across America. The residency into which the chosen applicants are usually enrolled is the Purchase College situated in State University in New York. The residency constitutes of group coaching sessions, rehearsals and presentations that consist of the repertory that is scheduled to be performed.

2013's tour presented a Russian theme with recreation of some of the biggest Russian composers. With Bloomberg as the lead sponsor of the 2013 showcases, donors that provided the Carnegie Hall with funds include Roberston Foundation, Weill Family Foundation, Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation, Joan and Sanford I. Weill and Marina Kellen French. Public support for the shows was provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.

This year's National Youth Orchestra of United States of America shows will present a faculty that consists of James Ross as the director, Robert Chen the concertmaster from Chicago Symphony Orchestra, violinist Jennifer Ross and bassist Jeffery Turner both from Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and cellist Mark Kosower from Cleveland Orchestra. They will be joined by flutist Mark Sparks from St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, clarinetist Stephen Williamson from New York Philharmonic and bassoonist Whitney Crockett from the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Lastly, timpanist Jauvon Gilliam from National Symphony Orchestra and percussionist Cynthia Yeh from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will perform as part of the choir. Together these professional musicians, along with 120 young artists will be making their way to New York, Lenox, Boone, Chicago, Teton Village, California and Los Angeles. Venues where the tour will make stops include the Performing Arts Center in Purchase, Ozawa Hall, and Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts, Jay Pritzker Pavilion, and Weill Hall in Sonoma State University, the Music Center's Walt Disney Concert Hall and Green Music Center.

The 2014 National Youth Orchestra of United States of America shows will recreate the original compositions of Samuel Carl Adams, Bernstein, Britten and Mussorgsky. Their compositions namely "New Work", "Symphonic Dances from West Side Story", "Violin Concerto, Op. 15" and "Pictures at an Exhibition" will be presented.
