The trio is signed to PBS and since starting their career in 1998, they have recorded 5 programs with PBS and 7 studio albums. The idea of forming such a group came to Bill Hughes and Daniel Harte while at the Cannes Festival and after watching the performance of Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti of the notable Three Tenors. To produce a television special, Hughes and Harte approached Finbar Wright and presented him this idea to which he couldn't commit as he was signed with Sony BMG already and had no time on his schedule. So John McDermott was offered the same and he accepted. Ronan Tynan and Anthony Kearns joined the group after Harte and Hughes found them through Dr. Veronica Dunne, a leading Irish vocal coach.

Now that the group was complete, the first PBS special came out in 1999 titled The Irish Tenors in Dublin. It became highly popular so the producers set out on producing another television special however McDermott could no more continue working as his mother had died. Wright was approached again, and for the sake of the trio's future success, he agreed. And the rest, as they say, is history. A glorious time for The Irish Tenors started from there.

All three of them are powerful vocalists who have been trained in classical music and have performed in concert halls and venues around the world in their respective stances. Wright, Kearns and Tynan make up a versatile trio however they are also related purely to Irish music as their melodies are brimming with traditional Irish folk music. And why is that?
