Named after the unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia, the Black Dahlia Murder is a melodic death metal / metalcore band from Waterford, Michigan.

Their music makes use of the death metal sound, containing elements such as blast beats and fast death metal style. The Black Dahlia Murders sound is influenced by Carcass, At the Gates, Darkane, Dissection, Morbid Angel, The Haunted, In Flames, Dimension Zero, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Megadeth.

What A Horrible Night to Have A Curse is the initial release of the Detroit-based Melodic death metal band. Released independently, the album's title comes from a quote in the NES game Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.

Their first full length album was Unhallowed, released by Metal Blade on June 17, 2003. Unhallowed, the title track, is an instrumental song that ends and flows into the second song, Funeral Thirst.

The secong single is about a zombie rising from the grave to wreak havoc and seek revenge on living humans. The song When the Last Grave Has Emptied tells the story of a zombie apocalypse, but from the perspective of Mankind.

Unhalloweds Thy Horror Cosmic is a tribute to H.P. Lovecraft, and Cthulhu. While, the final song on the record, Apex, is about a cannibal, making the spoken word intro and outro to the record all the more appropriate.

Vocalist Trevor Strnad alternates between deep, throaty death metal growls, high pitched shrieking, and an almost hardcore scream. The Black Dahlia Murder performed in Ozzfest 2005 and also participated in the Sounds of the Underground tour in 2006.

They also played at Wacken Open Air in 2007. Current bassist Bart Williams toured with the Black Dahlia Murder on their co-headlining gig with Throwdown and their European dates, he joined the group full-time. The band released their first full-length album called Unhallowed.

The Blackest Incarnation and Closed Casket Requiem were to be later released on the bands following, Unhallowed. Their second album Miasma reached at number 118 on the Billboard 200.

Miasma is the first and only album to feature drummer Zach Gibson, who replaced founding member and drummer, Cory Grady, due to personal reasons.

The Black Dahlia Murder announced on their MySpace to embark on a U.S. tour with Cannibal Corpse to promote their new album Nocturnal. They were joined by label-mates The Red Chord, Aeon, The Absence, and Goatwhore.

Recently, Pierre Langlois left the band for a more secure lifestyle. Pierre is replaced by former All That Remains drummer, Shannon Lucas. Black Dahlia Murders new album, entitled Nocturnal, was released on September 18, 2007.

Debuted at number 72 on the Billboard 200, it is the first album to feature new bassist Bart Williams, who replaced Dave Lock, and drummer Shannon Lucas, who replaced previous touring drummer Pierre Langois. The albums second track name, What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse, was taken from the name of the band's first album.

In first quarter of the year 2008, Black Dahila Murder embarked on a U.S. headlining tour with 3 Inches of Blood, Hate Eternal, and Decrepit Birth, followed by another alongside Brain Drill and Animosity.

The band is currently on Hot Topic's Summer Slaughter Tour with Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, Vader, Whitechapel, and Despised Icon. They are currently on US tour with Finland's Children of Bodom and Raleigh, NC's Between the Buried and Me.
