Career Highlights
Sturgill Simpson self-funded the release of his first record High Top Mountain. Produced by Dave Cobb, the collection featured a total of twelve songs and has appearances by Ray Cline, Steven Fromholz and Ralph Stanley on a couple of them. Its most popular track was Life Ain’t Fair and the World is Mean. Sturgill followed up the success of his debut album with Metamodern Sounds in Country Music which hit the store shelves in May 2014. It received favorable reviews from many prestigious publications such as The Daily Telegraph and The Irish Times. One of the most popular songs on the album was Turtles All the Way Down which won the singer an American Music Award in the category of ‘Song of the Year.’
Simpson’s third studio album A Sailor’s Guide to Earth further cemented his reputation of producing country music with a fresh touch. The record carries the listeners through the story of a sailor and the various emotions he feels while being away from home with the US Navy. The inspiration for this album came from a letter that the singer’s grandfather had left with his grandmother before he left for war. The record won Simpson an Americana Music Award as well as a prestigious Grammy.
The latest album by Sturgill Simpson Sound & Fury arrived in stores in September 2019. It was released via Elektra Records and debuted at the third spot on the Top Country Albums chart. By December 2019, it had sold more than 54,000 copies in the US alone. All the songs on the track-list are written by Simpson himself. The song A Good Look has been co-written by the singer with John Prime. Some of the most prominent songs on the collection are Make Art Not Friends, Fastest Horse in Town and All Said and Done.
