The show has been going on successfully since 1986 and has staged more than thousand performances globally. It is the only show that features major stars touring all across the world. This show is the brainchild of Scott Hamilton who wanted to create a show based solely on figure skating. Smuckers Stars on Ice show is sophisticated skating with attractive costumes and interesting choreography.

The idea of the show originated after Scott Hamilton retired from the Olympics. It was initiated on a very tiny scale and focused on small town arenas but in a few years the popularity of the show grew tremendously. The show featured stars like major Olympic and world champions. The show is now touring internationally to places like Europe, Mexico, Canada, United States, Brazil, Korea, Russia and Japan. It features stars like Dorothy Hamill, Jo Jo Starbuck, Ken Shelley, Alexei Yagudin, Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean, Robin Cousins, Tara Lipinski, Sarah Hughes, Brian Orser, Kurt Browning, Paul Wylie, Kristi Yamaguchi, Ekaterina Gordeeva & Sergei Grinkov, Katarina Witt, Ilia Kulik, Jamie Sale & David Pelletier, Elena Berezhnaya & Anton Sikharulidze.

Smuckers Stars on Ice brings a lot of entertainment and excitement. This show is created entirely to promote figure skating where skaters showcase best skating methods and techniques while keeping the interest of the audiences in it. It is not just skating but intricate choreography is also an important part of their act. The shows are strictly focused on adults with no princesses or cartoon characters in it. It features skaters dressed in sophisticated, elegant costumes and conspicuous makeup. The format incorporates solo and group acts with inventive use of lighting and sound to create a lasting dramatic effect.

The show is intentionally not an athletic display but is an artistic experience.  The creators have put plenty of thought into the theatric side of the show. In this attempt, music plays a major part in the entire show. Smuckers Stars on Ice incorporates the songs of many legendary artists from the past along with popular tunes from the recent times. There are performances on classical songs of legendary artists like Frank Sinatra, Tina Turner, Jimmy Barnes, Michael Jackson, Queen, Janet Jackson, Liza Minnelli and Neil Diamond. The songs of contemporary artists like Pink, Shakira, King of Leon and Kate Hudson are also heard during the show. It is thus popular in both older and younger lot equally. The lighting is handled by Gery Wilson and Rene Roca takes care of the choreography.

The creative team is currently supervised by Jeff Billing, the designer and director of the show. In the past the show originally casted the founder Scott Hamilton along with other champions like Dorothy Hamill, Rosalynn Sumners, Toller Cranston, Lea Ann Miller, Brian Pockar, Bill Fauver, Chris Harrison, Lisa Carey, Michael Seibert and Judy Blumberg in it. The cast members of the show have changed over the passage of time, but one thing that remains the same is, that they are all the masters of their craft. The current cast members are Evan Lysacek, Jamie Salé, David Pelletier, Sasha Cohen, Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, Kurt Browning, Ekaterina Gordeeva, Todd Eldredge, Michael Weiss and Joannie Rochette.

The show has made its mark with its unique concept and intelligent approach. It has been a trendsetter spinning off a number of similar shows, but none of these shows are 'Smuckers Stars on Ice' with the true brilliance of Scott Hamilton. The show has been recognized on various levels with honors and awards. It has won four Emmy awards for its exceptional choreography and costumes.
