Loreena Mckennitt
Loreena McKennitt was born on February 17, 1957. Loreena is a multi-talented Canadian singer, harpist, composer, and pianist. who is well known for recording, writing, and performing music with Celtic, New Age, and Middle Eastern themes.

Biography:
McKennitt was born in Morden, Manitoba, but moved to Stratford, Ontario in 1981. McKennitt's first album, Elemental, was in 1985 and it won her global attention. Hse also released self-produced work, such as To Drive the Cold Winter Away [1987], Parallel Dreams [1989], The Visit [1991], The Mask and Mirror [1994], A Winter Garden [1995] and The Book of Secrets [1997].

McKennitt's The Mummers' Dance was a success all over, and it received considerable airplay in North American markets [spring 1997]. She released An Ancient Muse, which was her first full-length studio album after 9 years [November 2006]. She has her own label, Quinlan Road.

McKennitt earned herself more recognition when she toured Europe in 1993. In 1995, her rendition of the traditional Irish song ?Bonny Portmore' was used in the film Highlander 3, causing. McKennitt's music has been used in the movies Jade, Soldier, The Mists of Avalon (this is a TV miniseries) and the TV series Roar.

In 1998, McKennitt's fianc?, Ronald Rees died in a boating accident along with two others who were close to her. She was believed by this, and was driven to create the Cook-Rees Memorial Fund that same year. She also launched an album called Live in Paris and Toronto. The earnings from these went towards the fund she created. From this point till 2006, she hardly performed. In 2006, McKennitt released the studio album, An Ancient Muse. McKennitt was made member of the Order of Canada by the Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson in July 2004.

McKennitt's music has been categorized as New Age / World / Celtic music, although it does have aspects and characteristics from Folk music. McKennitt composes her music after conducting enough research on the subject she is writing about. This helps her to form a concept for her album. Prior to creating Elemental and Parallel Dreams, McKennitt traveled to Ireland. Hse did this for inspiration that she believed she would attain from the country's history, geography, folklore, and culture. The album The Mask and Mirror was influenced by McKennitt's research in Spain. There she got into picking up Galicia, a Celtic section of Spain, as well as abundant Arabic roots, which helped her to produce an album with Celtic and Arabic music.

McKennitt is sometimes likened to Enya. Hwever, her music tends to be more rooted in traditional and classical invocations that make use of literary works. This is reflected in her work in The Lady of Shalott by Lord Tennyson, Snow by Archibald Lampman, William Blake's Lullaby, Yeats' The Stolen Child, Prospero's Speech, and The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes.

In 2005, McKennitt was locked in a court case in England. This was over a book that her former best friend [Niema Ash] published. It is believed to have contained details of their friendship. She said that it had confidential personal information that Ash should not have published. The English courts ruled in favor of McKennitt. The House of Lords also upheld the ruling of the lower court [2007].
