A visit to Los Angeles during this time convinced him to relocate there in order to benefit from the height of eighties metal scene. Angora managed to gain some success in LA but before it could launch a deal with a record label the inner differences among the band members led to its breakup. However, it added several awards in Corabi's records including the Best New Club Act title.

In 1989, John Corabi went on to form another band, 'The Scream', with two former members of Racer X, the bass player John Alderet and the guitarist Bruce Bouillet. This new endeavor released the album "Let it Scream" which managed to get considerable airplay at rock radio and MTV. Tracks like I Believe in Me, Man in the Moon and the reflective ballad Father, Mother, Sun became immensely popular.

Soon afterwards, John Corabi joined the platinum-selling group Motley Crue as its vocalist. Motley Crue released their much awaited self-titled album that went to become platinum in the United States. Although the band was a commercial success and also got a ranking on the Top Ten charts, but fans of Motley Crue could not quite accept the change in the group's lineup and hence the album did much less than its predecessor "Dr. Feelgood". The next venture for John Corabi came as the group 'Union" along with the former guitarist of Kiss, Bruce Kulick. Union also made history with tracks like Old Man Wise and October Morning Wind. The Metal Edge magazine reader's poll awarded the Union band 'Best New Band of 1998'.
