John Butler Trio Tickets

The music artistes in their quest for originality often stretch their capacities and experiment with the genre of music. They have to bring novelty in their styles by conforming to upbeat trends. Led by vocalist and guitarist John Butler, John Butler Trio is an eclectic roots/jam music band based in Australia. The band has two of its albums "Three" (2001) and "Living 2001-2002" (2003) that have achieved platinum status in Australia besides achieving slots in the top ten of the Australian album charts. In 2004 they launched their album "Sunrise Over Sea" that debuted at number one on the Australian charts in March 2004. "Grand National" is their latest released album (March 2007) which is well accepted.

John Butler started learning guitar when he was just 16. Seeing his interest, his grandmother presented him his grandfather's 1930's dobro guitar. John was born in Torrance, California and was named after his paternal grandfather. He then shifted to Pinjarra, a small Western Australian town in 1986. The album "Three" secured the category "Best Independent Release" for an ARIA award in 2001 and then again for Grand National in 2007. "Three" was then marketed in USA in 2002 and John Butler Trio paid a tour there the same year delivering joint performances with John Mayer and Dave Matthews Band.

After releasing "Three" in April 2001, John Butler Trio moved to Melbourne for promotional purpose. The album remained in the Australian alternative charts for nine consecutive months and reached #3 slot that was reckoned as a distinction for an independent band. The first single "Betterman" grabbed #5 on a Triple J Hottest 100, 2001 and tallied number 24 on the ARIA Charts.

With the release of "Three" in USA in 2002, the band conducted two tours in the country. They played at the Southwest Festival while also performing at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. The intensive touring measures by the band complemented them with a great live reputation in Australia as well as other regions. John Butler met Joe Camilleri of Woodstock Studios in Melbourne in late 2003. He had a new band consisting of bass player Shannon Birchall and percussionist Nicky Bomba. John Butler wanted greater freedom to seek his vision and he kept selecting the right members to play his music.

Their fourth studio album "Grand National" hit the market in March 2007 in Australia and New Zealand. Later on, it was released in the same month in USA and France. "Funky Tonight" was the first single of the album that secured #12 on Triple J Hottest 100 and #15 on the ARIA charts. "Better Than" was another hit single released later on. To complement its US release, John Butler Trio conducted a small tour of five American cities that started with Los Angeles and culminated in New York. In April 2007, the album earned a nominee for a J Award with "Better Than" occupying #1 in the US on Triple A format charts in June 2007. It has served as a major radio hit in France also reaching the top ten at Japanese Radio in the international songs category.

John Butler changed the line-up of the band in June 2009 announcing the addition of drummer Nicky Bomba and bassist Byron Luiters. Before that, Butler had also hired his brother-in-law in his band as an active member. John Butler Trio is all set to release its fifth album in March 2010 and the new line-up has been busy practicing their sessions in a Fremantle studio. The album is named "April Uprising". It brings in Butler's quest to seek out his ancestors in "Who Do You Think You Are?" which is an SBS Television's genealogy series. The group has shared the recording process of their new project with fans through a special studio sessions page on the band's website. "One Way Road" has been the first single which was released in December 2009.

"One Way Road" has been described as drawing a mix of roots, rock and dancehall. All these feels have been blended in a way that does not seem too cerebral or contrived, rather just very natural. John Butler is very happy with how he has captured the vibe of this song. Billboard.com has narrated that the group has recorded twenty-two songs at Fremantle but finally fifteen of them have been finalized. The album will enter the market scene in Australia , Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands, and Belgium on March 26, 2010. It is going to be released in France and New Zealand in March 29, United Kingdom in April 5 and in Canada/USA on April 06.
