Cal Baptist Lancers
The Cal Baptist Lancers men's basketball team plays in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) which is one of the most unique and successful conferences in the country. The GSAC is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the nation's first collegiate athletic association to offer national championships. Established in 1986 by like-minded institutions, the GSAC members are all church-related Christian colleges. They are purposely aligned to be similar in enrollment, academics, athletics and student life. Cal Baptist Lancers (nick named: Lancers) are currently NAIA's No.15. Navy and gold are their official colors.

The California Baptist Lancers men's basketball team represents the California Baptist University which is affiliated with the California Southern Baptist Convention. Founded in 1950, the university initially started off as a college that began operations with 42 students in fall 1950; 120 were enrolled during the 1950-51 academic year. In 1955, after four years of continued growth, the college relocated to larger facilities in Riverside. Growth in all areas paved the way for the institution to become a university on September 25, 1998.

Cal Baptist Lancers Home Arena
Lancers' home field is Van Dyne Gym opened in 1968 and now has a capacity of 1,200 for the basketball games. The gym is the oldest athletic facility on the California Baptist campus. In addition to being home to lancers men's basketball, it is also the home to women's basketball as well as men's and women's volleyball. In the summer of 2005, the facility underwent a $300,000 renovation project that included painting of the interior and exterior walls, repainting of the floor to reflect the school's new colors and logo, the addition of new seating, which includes chair back seats as well as new doors with a state-of-the-art security system. Currently, the Van Dyne Gym also serves as the facility for Sandals Church, a congregation of nearly 1,500 by CBU alumnus Matt Brown. In addition to hosting various community and youth sporting events, including the annual Riverside Junior High School Basketball Tournament and CIF playoff contests, the Van Dyne Gym served as the host for the 2006 NAIA Men's Volleyball National Invitational Tournament.

Season 2007-2008
Led by coach Tim Collins, winning has been the theme for the Cal Baptist men's basketball team this season. For a squad that is off to its best start since 1976 following a recent 68-61 victory over Biola, the Lancers are keeping in mind that there is something to be said for staying on an even keel. Matt Gonzalez had 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Lancers, who got a surprising performance out of their forward on a night when they went up against a Biola team that came with a size advantage. Big and strong team players but their true advantage is their quickness which they used to the fullest. The Eagles' big men -- 6-foot-7 Danny Jones (22 points) and 6-8 Rocky Hampton (13 points), from Lake Elsinore Temescal Canyon -- made their presence felt, but Cal Baptist (12-1, 4-1 Golden State Athletic Conference) ended up outrebounding its opponent 37-34 anyway. And by the end of the game, it was Biola (10-5, 2-3) that lost its cool. Point guard Marlon King hit the floor to go after a loose ball and was whistled for a foul. In frustration, he tossed the ball in the direction of a referee and was assessed a technical foul. Mark Roussin hit two free throws to put Cal Baptist up 63-57 with 54.4 seconds left and later hit another free throw to seal the win. Roussin, the GSAC's reigning player of the week, was held relatively in check but still managed 16 points along with 13 rebounds.NAIA's No. 15-ranked California Baptist move into a half-game lead in the GSAC at 6-1 after their 66-56 GSAC win over The Master's in a rare game in the Van Dyne Gym on 17th Jan 2008. The win is the Lancers' third straight as they improve to 14-1 overall, continuing their best start in program history.
