Western Hockey Leagues major junior hockey team The Everett Silvertips, which plays in Everett, Washington, joined the WHL for the 2003-04 WHL season. Named after the silvertip bear, The Everett Silvertips play in the Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center (2003), which has a seating capacity of 8,250 for hockey games.The Everett Silvertips started their season in 2003-2004, successfully winning hearts of the entire Everett and Snohomish County communities.
In their introductory season in the U.S. Division of the WHL, Silvertips broke multiple records in its preliminary year. Under the supervision of General Manager Doug Soetaert and Coach Kevin Constantine, they won the division title with a record of 35-26-8-2, and set a record for a first year team in any of the major junior hockey leagues (the OHL, QMJHL, and WHL) attaining 80 points in the regular season, breaking down the former record set by the 1982-1983 Longueuil Chevaliers of the QMJHL. Constantine received the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy from the league as the 2003-2004 Coach of the Year.In the 2004s playoffs, the Silvertips were victorious against the Spokane Chiefs 4-0 in the first round of the playoffs, and defeated the Vancouver Giants in the second round 4 games to 2. In playing against the WHL champions Kelowna Rockets for the Western Conference title, they defeated the Rockets 4-3 in an extremely close series (the Silvertips falling behind 3-1 before winning the final three games in overtime) and earning the chance to play the Medicine Hat Tigers for the WHL championship. The Tigers won the series 4-0, ending the Silvertips' season.
2004-2005 Season Re-cap
The Everett Silvertips finished their 2nd season in the Western Hockey League on a tough note by falling to the Kootenay Ice in the 2nd Round of the 2005 WHL Playoffs but the future is definitely bright for the Silvertips in years to come. In the 2004-2005 campaign the Silvertips finished the regular season with 33 victories and a berth into the WHL Playoffs for the 2nd straight season in their 2nd year in the WHL.
2005-2006 Season
During the 2005-2006, the Silvertips got eliminated from the WHL Playoffs by the Vancouver Giants in the Western Conference Finals, but the Silvertips got fortunate in reaching the final four of the WHL Playoffs for the second time in three WHL seasons and also became the US Division champions for the 2nd time in 3 years.
2006-2007 Season
The 2006-2007 season ended for Everett Silvertips when the Prince George Cougars defeated the Silvertips in six games of their Western Conference Semifinal series. For them, it wasnt a very easy task to end the season but the hockey club still accomplished some of their goals. The Silvertips won their 3rd US Division regular season crown and was awarded the Scotty Munro Trophy for recording the best record in the WHL during the 2006-2007 regular season with a record of 54-15-1-2 (111 points). Silvertips forward Zach Hamill happened to become the first Everett Silvertip who successfully lead the WHL in points with 32 goals and 61 assists for 93 points. BC native the Port Coquitlam will be awarded the Bobby Clarke trophy for leading the WHL in scoring.
