The Dirty Projectors is a rock band from Brooklyn, New York. They came to the music scene when they released their first EP in 2002. They are made up of front man, David Longstreth, who other than being the lead vocalist also plays the guitar and writes songs for the band. Also in the lineup are Amber Coffman, also the singer and guitarist, Haley Dekle, the vocalist, Nat Baldwin, the bass player, Michael Johnson, the drummer and Olga Bell, the vocalist and keyboardist. Their debut album was called "The Graceful Fallen Mango", and right away they showed immense potential, creativity and competent song arrangement abilities. They have come a long way since their debut. They just released their latest record, "Swing Lo Megellan" which displays an even more evolved sound than all their predeceasing albums. Fans can get a chance to listen to this new track list at the Dirty Projectors Milwaukee WI show.

The band has been compared to artists spread across the board, and of literally every genre. They have been likened to Squeeze, Mariah Carey, David Byrne, Frank Zappa, Beyoncé and the band Yes. Their own music, however, lies more in the indie rock and new wave areas. They have shunned the critics’ comparisons of them to other artists, expressing a great dislike for everyone listed. They have insisted that their sound is unique and that they will keep recreating themselves with time. Fans themselves can be the judge by getting Dirty Projectors Milwaukee WI tickets to see their show.

Hailing from the beautiful city of Brooklyn, the Dirty Projectors have made equally beautiful music. Their unique sound sets them apart from other musical bands of Brooklyn. Over the years they have successfully achieved brilliant results with experiments on their sounds using unique combinations of Experimental Rock and Indie Rock music, which is not something we see every day. In this regard, one must really hand it to Dirty Projectors for where others keep things safe and stick to mainstream sound, they have dared to be original and unique and have never been afraid to experiment with their music.

The band was established in 2002 by Dave Longstreth. Ever since, many artists have come and gone from the band. Some of them include famous names like Adam Forkner, Ezra Koenig and Rostam Batmanglij etc. Some of the other former members of the band are Susanna Waiche, James Sumner, Hank Miller, Wes Miles, Charlie Looker, Spencer Kingman, Alex Farril and Sam Bernsteing. The current members of the band are Dave Longstreth himself, Nat Baldwin who plays the bass, Amber Coffman on vocals and also the guitar, Brian Mcomber on drums and Haley Dekle the current lead vocalist of the band. Together they make the Dirty Projectors.

The band began making music with The Graceful Fallen Mango, which was released as the solo album of Longstreth, the founding member of the band. It was released in 2002. This album was released in both lo and hi-fi production. The following year all the work Longstreth was doing was via the platform of Dirty Projectors. So The Glad Fact was released under Western Vinyl label in 2003 which was technically the first album of the band. In the same year, the band produced another album under the title of Morning Better Last! States Rights Records released this album via their recording company under their own label.
The fourth album which was released by the band was truly unique in more than one way. It was called Slaves' Graves along with another album Ballads and was released in 2004. Although the two are considered one album per se, but both the records were released under separate labels. Western Vinyl and Happy, Happy Birthday to Me Records labels respectively released the albums simultaneously. Both the albums had a contrast of sounds. Slaves' Graves album primarily consisted of songs sung by Dave himself with the help of a small orchestra called The Orchestra Society for the Preservation of the Orchestra. But Ballads part only has Dave songs which are sung mainly on guitar music alone. The first seven songs are included in Slaves' Graves whereas the last 7 songs constitute the Ballad album. The album released in 2005, the Getty Address consisted of an idea conceived by Don Henley. The use of extensive orchestral and choral enhancement contributed to a magnificent sound effect on this album. This was a bold experiment by the band but in the end it all paid off well. New Attitude EP was released in 2006. This album had a sound of its own. Experts believe that this album has the traits of the sound of Ali Farka Toure's music which has been cleverly played to the advantage of the band by utilizing the vocal interplay. This experiment also was successful.

Black Flag was the album which was released in 2007 which yet again proved the fact that Dirty Projectors were not going to mimic former famous artists and in the ever growing music industry where plagiarism has become quite shamefully a condoned norm, they dared to be different and original at that. And unlike most other cases, different was not scary in their case, it was rather great. There last album was released by Domino Records which is in contract with the band to release the upcoming Temecula Sunrise EP album too. Grab Dirty Projectors tickets and find out just how and why different is good and NOT scary.
