Billy Ocean
Billy Ocean is a Grammy Award-winning British-based popular music performer. He was born in 21 January 1950 in Fyzabad. He had a string of rhythm and blues-tinged international pop hits in the 1970s and 1980s.

He was the top British-based R&B singer / songwriter of the 1980s. He was one of the first Caribbean singers to be embraced by MTV. He waited seven years after scoring his first four UK top 20 hits.

Ocean moved to England at the age of eight, and by his teenaged years, he was singing regularly in London clubs. During this time, Ocean paid the bills by working at Ford Motors, but continued to pen songs and perform, as he issued an obscure debut single under the name of Scorched Earth.

But by 1975, the singer had dropped his alias and was going by Billy Ocean, resulting in a self-titled debut that spawned the singer?s first hit single?, Love Really Hurts Without You?, peaking on the singles chart at number two in the United Kingdom.

Ocean continued to issue albums plus further singles and the title track from Nights being sizeable hits; as he also began penning songs for other artists, including a track on LaToya Jackson?s self-titled debut.

But breakthrough success was just around the corner for Ocean, as he scored a massive hit single with ?Caribbean Queen?, a track that shot to the top of the charts worldwide.

Depending on the region, the song?s title and lyrics were changed slightly, resulting in the tune being known as ?African Queen? and ?European Queen? in other parts of the world, while the album it was taken from, Suddenly, was eventually certified double platinum.

Ocean?s winning streak continued with Love Zone, which spawned a pair of hit singles: ?When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going?, which peaked at number two, and the number-one ?There?ll Be Sad Songs?.

1988 saw Ocean score another number-one single with ?Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car?, taken from the platinum album Tear Down These Walls. But afterward, the hits dried up for Ocean as such further albums as Time to Move On, L.I.F.E., and Showdown failed to spawn hits.

The unforgettable international hit ?Caribbean Queen? made the British pop-soul star Billy Ocean a break-out success in 1984. His technique of combining r&b and dance material with pop music production resulted in songs that grooved as happily on your car stereo as they did in the dance clubs.

Born Leslie Sebastian Charles in Trinidad, Ocean was always a musical child. At the age of eight he moved with his parents to England, where as a teenager he became active in the London club scene.

Working a night job at Ford Motors while pursuing his music by day, Ocean released his first single, ?Scorched Earth?. He had his first hit the following year when the Motown-style ?Love Really Hurts Without You? went to #2 on the British singles chart and #22 on the U.S.

Billboard Hot 100. Billy Ocean?s success continued through the 70?s and early 80?s with hits like ?Love On Delivery?. With modified lyrics the song was released for other markets as ?African Queen? and ?European Queen?, with just as much success.

But Ocean wasn?t coasting on one monster hit, he scored again with the electrified funk tune ?Loverboy? and the sweet ballad ?Suddenly?.

?Suddenly? was also the title track of Ocean?s album, which hit the Top 10 in its own right on both sides of the Atlantic. Billy Ocean kept rolling with ?When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going?. Later on his inevitable Greatest Hits album appeared, but Ocean didn?t rest on his laurels.

Billy Ocean recorded several more albums that did not produce hits, but his importance continued to be felt in the music world, especially in Europe. Today Billy Ocean remains a vital musical force, touring Europe and lending his expertise to students at the Tech Music Schools of London.
