Known as one of the most unexpected success stories in the indie music scene of 2006, the band Beirut is a music group that has caught many people's attention over the years. Their style of music has a lot of variety that can range from pre-rock/pop and Eastern European Gypsy to an alternately whimsical indie folk version of the Decemberists or to a homemade psychedelic attempt of Neutral Milk Hotel's music. If you have not heard of this band, then here is a chance to see them perform live, so hurry up and buy your Beirut tickets.

Formed by Zach Condon from Albuquerque, New Mexico, this young teenager musical prodigy is a multi-instrumentalist, who began his career through bedroom recordings in his early teenage years. He has recorded an entire album of 1950's style of doo wop material and electronic pop music collection that was inspired by the Magnetic Fields.

Condon is known for his mournful vocals and low-shaky pitch sound that is inspired by the Fields' vocalist, Stephin Merritt. Zachary "Zach" Condon was born on the 13th of February, 1986 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Condon liked to play trumpet in jazz bands as a teenager and is said to have cited jazz music as a major influence. Apart from jazz, growing up in Santa Fe exposed Condon to Mexican music, mariachi as well as developing an interest in Fellini arias, Balkan music and Sicilian funeral brass.

Zach Condon was a student at the Santa Fe High School, and later was enrolled in community college, until he decided to drop out at the age of seventeen and travel to Europe with his elder brother, Ryan Condon. The journey through Europe was to explore the Balkan folk and Gypsy music. It was this world music exploration that proved to be so instrumental in the development of Beirut's unique sound.  The Balkan folk and Gypsy music exposure helped the band form the core of the debut album, Gulag Orkestar.

After his return back home to Albuquerque, Condon came across the former member of Neutral Milk Hotel, Jeremy Barnes. A fellow New Mexican, Barnes shared the same interests in music as Condon. With his help and his A Hawk and A Hacksaw group member, Heather Trost, Zach Condon started to record tracks that would soon make up the Gulag Orkestar album. Condon was mostly on his own, playing various instruments such as the accordion, saxophone, clarinet, mandolin, horns, glockenspiel, percussion, keyboards and ukulele with Jeremy Barnes on drums and Heather Trost performing on the cello and violin.

The band has signed on to Ba Da Bing! Records label, after Jeremy Barnes decided to give the early version of their album to the record label's head Ben Goldberg, who loved it. Hence, the newly formed band from Albuquerque, Beirut was signed to the Ba Da Bing! Records label from New Jersey. Condon then moved to Brooklyn, where he decided to put together a few musicians as part time band members, with whom he used to give live performances. The year 2006, saw the official release of the band's debut album, Gulag Orkestar, which was critically approved and found exposure from mainstream media outlets. These media outlets called, Condon as a one man cross between the likes of Jeff Mangum, Sufjan Stevens and Conor Oberst. Their music is very unique and enjoyable so buy your Beirut tickets as soon as possible, and witness Condon and his band fill your ears with melodies that are rare and beautiful.

In 2007, the band followed up their debut album with the EP Lon Gisland and The Flying Club Cup later on that year. Zach Condon then released his double EP in 2009 called the, March of the Zapotec/Holland. Of the twelve tracks, it had six tracks that were recorded at his home under the alias "Realpeople", while the other six were recorded in Oaxaca, México with the nineteen piece group from Teotitlan del Valle called the, Jimenez Band. The band has had a very successful run in the music scene. Their 2011 album; Rip Tide has a very sunny and uplifting sound to it that has becomE synonymous with the band. The band continues to produce great music, so be sure to catch them live in concert, buy Beirut tickets and enjoy.
