Jeff Hanneman: A Legend Departs Leaving Behind a Legacy
Jeff Hanneman, one of the founding members and guitarists of the band Slayer, died on 2nd May at the age of 49. He was admitted to a hospital near to his home in Southern California where he died of liver failure.
“Slayer is devastated to inform that their band mate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11 a.m. this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure,” posted by the band on Facebook page and the website.
Some sources say that the prolonged ailment was due to a spider bite in December 2011 but whether it is connected to the liver failure is still not known.
Inspired by the Punk, Trash and Speed Metal, Hanneman wrote many songs for his band among which ‘Raining Blood’, ‘South of Heaven’, ‘Angel of Death’ and ‘War Ensemble’ are the most popular. These songs have been performed at almost every concert that the Slayer has conducted. Hanneman’s music and songs have always captivated his listeners and his work would continue to inspire Metal and Punk lovers.
Hanneman and his band mate King, both were ranked on number ten on the list of “100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time”. Hanneman’s distinctive music and artistic sense has won the hearts of many listeners. He has left behind his wife Kathy, two brothers, his band members and an unforgotten music legacy.
