Bruno Mars – What Makes Him Tick with the Fans
Consider the facts: Bruno Mars released his debut album in 2010. In the four years since then, he has sold over ten million albums and around fifty eight million singles. He has been nominated for eighteen Grammy Awards, taking away the gilded gramophone twice in the categories of Best Male Vocal Performance (“Just the Way You Are”) and Best Pop Vocal Album (Unorthodox Jukebox). Most recently, he was crowned the International Male Solo Artist at the 2014 Brit Awards; keeping it cool as he enjoyed the win over fellow nominees Drake, JT, Eminem and John Grant.
His performance at this year’s Super Bowl half time show wowed a sitting audience of 80,000 and more than a hundred million at home. And in 2011, he was featured on TIME Magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. Believe it or not, this is just a tip of the iceberg as this talented performer is set to take over the world.
But what makes him tick with the fans? Is it the voice, the songs, the good looks or the energetic performances? Well, to be honest, it is a combination of all these factors including his wonderful work ethic and natural talent.
A naturally gifted vocalist, Mars is blessed with a three octave, tenor vocal range. In other words, he sounds spectacular! He has a unique, beautiful texture to his voice that makes everyone take notice. His voice also has that rare quality of blending in perfectly with a wide variety of genres, which is why you can find elements of Reggae, soul, hip hop, pop, R&B and rock in his tunes – and you can’t say he doesn’t do justice to all of them. In turn, these factors combine to make Mars one of the most versatile and diverse performers right now.
But just having the voice is not enough. Today, a pop star needs to be just more than a ‘Voice’. The looks, the persona, the charisma and the ability to give a memorable performance are all wrapped up very nicely in Mars’s case. It would be safe to say Mars is the complete package.
With his Hawaiian charm and a signature trilby style hat, he does well in the looks department. According to a passionate Mars admirer, “Bruno Mars is good looking in an exotic, cute, I want to have your babies, kind of way”. And this is just one fan!
Now about his performances, Mars is an energetic, sexy and charismatic performer. According to Rolling Stone Magazine, “Anyone from the age of 5 to 95 can walk out of a Bruno Mars concert feeling like the show was designed just for them.”A feature in the same magazine placed Mars at the thirty fifth spot on their list of “50 Best Live Acts Right Now”.
In short, Mars has ‘it’ quality most stars don’t have. At only twenty eight, he has a long career ahead of him. Surely there will be ups and downs but if he can continue the way he has so far, the sky’s the limit and we’ll all be singing ‘Talking to the Moon’ and thinking about the stars with Bruno Mars. And that’s good news for all the music fans out there.
