The magnificent facility UIC Pavilion is majorly known as the home to Chicago Flames and Chicago Sky, which are a popular basketball and WNBA teams of the region. Since its opening in 1982 with a concert by Loverboy, UIC Pavilion has remained the hub of sports and music activities of the city. Though primarily a University facility, it has attracted sports lovers from all over Chicago and also hosted the chart-toppers artists from the world of music.

The management, of course, deserves the credited for Pavilion"s super success as they make sure to regularly upgrade the arena in accordance with modern needs. According to an approximate value, the arena can host up to 8,000 patrons in basketball and volleyball matches, almost 10,300 for concerts and live shows and 5,000 to 8,000 for house shows. It has hosted Horizon League men's basketball conference tournament in 1984, 1999 and 2000. In tennis, the Pavilion hosted grand tournaments like FedEx Tennis Shootout, Ameritech Cup tennis and the McDonald's Tour featuring the tennis stars Williams Sisters.

The venue made headlines when it hosted USA Basketball All-Stars vs. the Yugoslavian Olympic Team, USA Women's Basketball vs. the Russian Olympic Team, Labatt's Hockey Heroes vs. UIC and games by Chicago Power and Chicago Storm Indoor Soccer team.

The citizens of Chicago still recalls the times when UIC Pavilion hosted Volvo Grand Prix and U.S. Precision Figure Skating Championships. It has also hosted many action-packed wrestling events like Starrcade, Chi-Town Rumble and Halloween Havoc in 80"s and 90"s.

The commencement of AIBA World Amateur Boxing Championship in 2007 added another feature to its cap as it was the largest AIBA World Championship of that time.
